Job Summary

The Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development, administration, and optimization of Roers Companies' Enterprise Data Warehouse, data integration architecture, and business intelligence ecosystem. This role serves as the primary technical resource for enterprise data management, modeling, data pipeline development, and Power BI administration.


The Data Engineer partners closely with leaders and stakeholders across Property Management, Finance, Development, Construction, and Corporate Services to ensure accurate, reliable, and actionable business data is available to support operational and strategic decision-making. 


This position is responsible for transforming complex business requirements into scalable data solutions, developing efficient ETL/ELT processes, maintaining high-quality data structures, and establishing governance standards that promote consistency, security, and usability across reporting platforms.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise in MS Azure, sqlDBM, Erwin, Power BI, data warehousing concepts, semantic modeling, and business intelligence best practices, combined with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Responsibilities

Data Warehouse Architecture & Data Engineering

  • Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data models that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making.
  • Manage the architecture, structure, and ongoing enhancement of the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Develop scalable data solutions that integrate information from property management systems, financial applications, and other business-critical platforms.
  • Evaluate source-system data structures and implement data modeling strategies that improve reporting performance, consistency, and usability.
  • Establish and maintain data standards, naming conventions, documentation, and best practices to ensure long-term maintainability and scalability.
  • Monitor data quality and implement processes to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data integrity issues.

Business Intelligence & Analytics

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Power BI semantic models, datasets, and reporting structures to support enterprise reporting needs.
  • Design data models that maximize report performance, consistency, and reusability across multiple business functions.
  • Create and maintain efficient DAX calculations, measures, and data relationships.
  • Troubleshoot complex Power BI performance issues, dataset errors, and report calculation challenges..

Governance, Security, & Administration

  • Establish and maintain Power BI governance standards, security protocols, and development best practices.
  • Monitor platform utilization and identify opportunities to improve performance, adoption, governance, and user experience.
  • Develop standards for report development, naming conventions, documentation, and lifecycle management.

Business Partnership & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting and analytics needs and translate business requirements into scalable data and reporting solutions.
  • Provide guidance and support to users regarding dashboards, reporting tools, and data interpretation while promoting data governance and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes through automation, enhanced reporting, improved data accessibility, and emerging technologies.

Requirements

Requirements

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, database development, or related technical disciplines required.
  • Experience developing Power BI datasets, semantic models, dashboards, and reporting solutions required.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT solutions utilizing SQL Server and related Microsoft data technologies required.

Preferred Licenses/Certificates

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) 
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) 
  • Microsoft Azure, SQL Server, Data Analytics, or Business Intelligence certifications are a plus

Compensation and Benefits for Data Engineer:

Pay Range: $93,100 - $122,500, plus eligibility to participate in the annual bonus program

Compensation is determined by several factors that vary depending on the position, including the individual’s experience, skills, and the knowledge they bring to the specific role.
