Summary
The Lead Analyst position, serving the Store Operations & Services teams, is responsible for developing data-driven insights by solving complex data problems across several source systems and leading the design, delivery, and innovation of best-in-class reporting distributed to more than 1,700 stores, home office executives, and business leaders. This position requires cross-functional collaboration throughout the organization, both at the Home Office and in the Field, and serves as the primary touchpoint for end-to-end delivery of robust systems and datasets that produce actionable, standardized, and visually appealing reporting. The role identifies, defines, communicates, analyzes, prioritizes, tests, and refines reporting requirements and, with Director alignment, leads IT/IS workflows and final product delivery to the business.
The role serves as the primary lead for internal, operations & services stakeholders, business partners, and IT/IS teams to ensure successful translation of requirements into solutions. The successful candidate can work independently or on a cross-functional team in a fast-changing environment, participate in a variety of projects, and serve as the business lead for prioritized data solutions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Business Intelligence (BI) DevelopmentÂ
- Seek out, communicate, and lead technical solutions with enterprise data warehouse teams; identify gaps between business requirements and current reporting or data solutions and recommend options.
- Create, modify, and improve the enterprise BI metric portfolio. Continuous improvement requires full discovery of root system issues, complex mapping of systems and tables, and business introduction to advanced metric builds, including smart metrics in MicroStrategy.
- Leverage and extract big data, articulate global architecture and mapping, and perform data queries that translate to big data engineering activities, including design, coding, and testing using SQL, Python, R, or similar tools.
- Serve as the primary business operator for complex business questions by continuously maintaining, redesigning, and elevating BI reporting tools such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, and ThoughtSpot; MicroStrategy is preferred.
- Steer complex reporting discovery into insightful reporting solutions and business processes; clarify results and persuade leaders and partners to act, adopt, and become comfortable with new information.
Reporting & AnalyticsÂ
- Define, Measure, Analyze, Implement, and Control (DMAIC) a portfolio of Store Operations reporting focused on understanding, supporting, and improving relationships with internal Home Office and Field partners and external customers.
- Influence business leaders to accept and better understand delivery, technology, and alternative views that elevate operations.
- Lead user acceptance testing by comprehending, driving, and validating BI reporting metrics, attributes, and objects; clearly communicate data or object errors requiring correction by IS partners and follow through to resolution using root-cause evaluation.
- Translate business needs into requirements that elevate IT operations across the data stack, data storage, and ETL processes; fully comprehend and roadmap the final data output while recognizing that IT owns the data.
- Translate technical specifications for business users and business needs for technical teams.
- Lead dotted-line IS team builds to deliver enterprise-ready reporting solutions.
- Demonstrate learning agility and collaborate on development of a vision and roadmap that continuously advances reporting solutions.
- Understand and apply IT terminology and a team-based approach to end-to-end reporting solutions, including big data, ETL, mapping, architecture, and report development.
- Transform standard data into visualizations and elevated user-interface applications.
- Resolve issues quickly and accept responsibility for resolution.
- Build strong relationships with Home Office and Field partners; actively communicate with teams to identify and build analytical capabilities and maintain best practices for high-quality data standards and analysis.
- Manage time, prioritize work, and multitask across multiple assignments.
Production / Project ManagementÂ
- Support the Director, and frequently VPs or SVPs, on key projects, analysis, modeling, and report development, including ad hoc work that may require independent or cross-functional execution.
- Serve as the point person for weekly progress, testing, and delivery with dotted-line IT partners; translate leadership strategy into action across IT delivery.
- Develop a detailed understanding of business operations and apply organizational knowledge gained through manager and partner interactions to current and future deliverables, data enhancements, and reporting.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- No direct supervisory responsibility.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Analytics, Systems, Business, Finance, Statistics, Economics, or a related field and seven or more years of related experience in finance or analytical reporting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Retail experience preferred.
- Up to 10% travel may be required based on business needs

- Demonstrated business and financial acumen, including the ability to interpret and use key financial and statistical data.
- Ability to synthesize multiple data sets in varying formats into a coherent story and communicate effectively across organizational levels.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including intermediate to advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Access.
- Strong working knowledge of MicroStrategy, Business Intelligence tools, or other advanced programming applications used for data definition and manipulation.
