Job Summary:
Career Success Schools (CSS) are seeking a dedicated and compassionate high school academic counselor to join our dynamic TECH Campus team. In this role, the AGC will help students navigate their four-year academic plans, monitor credit tracking for graduation, and ensure alignment with Arizona Department of Education standards. The AGC will collaborate with teachers, parents, and administration to support student success. You will also guide students through college and career readiness, including university applications, financial aid processes, and career technical education (CTE) pathways.
Education, Certification, and Licensure:
- Valid Arizona Professional Educator License School Counselor) formerly Guidance Counselor)
- Master's Degree in Counseling or related field from an accredited program
- Current and valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practices, and special education procedures.
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community
- Use data to develop school counseling program goals and proactively articulate goals to all stakeholders
- Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of school counseling program goals
- Conduct annual individual counselor, site-based department and district-based counseling program self-assessments to determine strengths and areas for growth and plan professional development and future goals accordingly
- Use data to develop counseling curriculum, small-group and closing-the-gap action plans for effective delivery of the school counseling program
- Use data to identify student needs and develop comprehensive counseling programs that are aligned
- Monitor student academic performance, attendance and behavioral data and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and social workers to create student support plans and interventions, to identify and facilitate access to student resources, to provide support for the student and then follow up to ensure improvement and success
- Organizes time, resources, energy and workload in order to meet responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues
- Performs responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner
- Assist students in the areas of academic, social, behavioral and emotional development; as well as in career awareness
- Provide in-service training and make presentations to staff
- Monitor and advise students of their progress and provide on-going communication with parents
- Collaborate with teachers, parents and staff; prepare students for transition to the next grade level.
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
- Serve as an advocate for students, promoting their rights and access to equitable education.
- Participate in professional development and remain current with best practices in school counselors
- Perform other duties as assigned by building administration or the District Administrator
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mediation skills.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Proficiency in technology platforms used for documentation and communication (e.g., IEP software, student information management systems, Google Suite, Microsoft Office).
- Ability to manage multiple caseloads and priorities while maintaining professional confidentiality.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity when working with diverse populations.
