What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will provide direct care and support to individuals while promoting independence, personal growth, and community involvement.

Direct Support & Daily Living Assistance

  • Assist with personal care, hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, and daily living activities
  • Support individuals in maximizing independence and quality of life
  • Encourage self-advocacy, positive behaviors, and personal choice
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and skill-building support
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment

Individualized Support & Skill Development

  • Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals and desired outcomes
  • Teach daily living, social, vocational, and community-based skills
  • Encourage community participation and relationship-building
  • Facilitate activities that promote independence, self-esteem, and growth

Health, Safety & Medication Administration

  • Administer medications according to agency policies and regulations
  • Monitor and report changes in health, behavior, and well-being
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of individuals served
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with agency protocols

Transportation & Community Supports

  • Transport individuals to appointments, activities, and community events
  • Operate agency or personal vehicles in compliance with organizational policies
  • Maintain required transportation documentation

Documentation & Team Collaboration

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, including:
    • Daily service notes
    • Goal and outcome tracking
    • Medication administration records
    • Incident reports
    • Behavior support documentation
    • Health monitoring logs
    • Electronic Health Record (EHR) entries
  • Maintain confidentiality of consumer and agency information
  • Attend trainings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions
  • Collaborate with supervisors and interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality services

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Six months to one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in a human services setting
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to meet agency driving requirements
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within the required timeframe
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, email, electronic documentation systems, and timekeeping software

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of person-centered practices and trauma-informed care

Schedule

  • Shift: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Flexible scheduling based on program needs
  • Weekend, holiday, and on-call hours may be required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist with up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday
  • Ability to participate in community outings and activities
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
