Safety Companion - Full Time/Nights

The Safety Companion carries out routine and assigned non-nursing tasks and assists the nurse in carrying out patient care activities within the scope of training and experience. this position monitors the patient's verbalizations and reports all actions to the nurse. To provide the services of a sitter for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize his or her safety.
 

Responsibilities

What you will do
 

• Monitors the safety of the patient while sitting with safety companion patients and Baker Act patients.
• Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly patient environment.
• Assists the patient with activities of daily living as directed by the nurse.
• Maintains on going communication with the nurse assigned to the patient.
• Maintains current knowledge/certification.
• Float throughout Baptist Heath Care System in one or more areas of practice as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
 

• High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Licenses and Certifications
 

• BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association within 90 Days Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
 

• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
