Environmental Design Inc. (EDI) is seeking a reliable, organized, and self-motivated Environmental Field Technician to join our environmental consulting team. This is not a sustainability, conservation, or natural resources position. Our work focuses primarily on asbestos, mold, indoor air quality, lead, contaminated building materials, and other environmental hazards associated with buildings, construction, and site remediation projects.

This is a full-time position involving field inspections, environmental testing, air monitoring, and project documentation at commercial, institutional, and government facilities throughout New Jersey, the Philadelphia region, and surrounding areas.

Environmental Design Inc. is an established environmental consulting firm providing asbestos, indoor air quality, mold, lead, site investigation, and other environmental consulting services to government agencies, schools, universities, commercial clients, architects, engineers, and contractors since 1995.

Position Responsibilities

The position will primarily involve:

Asbestos inspections, air monitoring, and project oversight

Indoor Air Quality and mold investigations and sampling

Environmental field sampling and testing

Work at active construction and remediation sites

Preparation of field documentation, photographs, logs, and basic reports

Communication with clients, contractors, laboratories, and EDI project managers

Candidates must:

  • Have a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation
  • Be willing to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and occasionally beyond the immediate region
  • Be available for occasional early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, overtime, and overnight travel when project schedules require it
  • Be comfortable working in active construction and remediation environments
  • Be physically capable of walking construction sites, climbing stairs and ladders, carrying field equipment, and performing inspections in mechanical areas and other building spaces
  • Be capable of wearing respiratory protection when required
  • Have good organizational and communication skills
  • Possess reasonable computer and technical writing skills
  • Be able to work independently and accurately document field activities
Experience

Previous environmental consulting or asbestos experience is strongly preferred, but not required.

EDI is willing to train a motivated candidate who demonstrates strong reliability, communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to learn technical field procedures.

Candidates with experience in environmental science, construction, engineering, building inspection, industrial hygiene, architecture, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Existing certifications or licenses are a significant plus, particularly:

  • NJ Asbestos Safety Technician (AST)
  • Philadelphia Asbestos Project Inspector (API)
  • EPA/AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector
  • Other applicable asbestos, lead, mold, or environmental certifications
