Director of Finance & Administration

Location: Peabody, MA (On-Site)

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: 150k-185k

Shape the Financial Future of a Growing Manufacturing Organization

A well-established, precision manufacturing company is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration to serve as its senior internal financial leader. Reporting directly to the President and partnering closely with an external CFO, this executive leadership position offers the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, drive operational performance, and help shape the future of a growing organization.

This is far more than a traditional accounting leadership role. We're looking for a business-minded finance executive who thrives as a trusted advisor-someone who can translate financial data into strategic insight, build strong cross-functional partnerships, and provide leadership across Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and ERP administration.

If you're energized by helping leadership teams make better business decisions and enjoy working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial manufacturing environment, we'd love to connect with you.

What You'll Do

As Director of Finance & Administration, you will:

  • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the President and executive leadership team.
  • Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and scenario modeling processes.
  • Deliver executive-level financial reporting, including P&L analysis, gross margin reporting, forecasting, and key business metrics.
  • Provide strategic guidance on pricing, capital investments, operational performance, profitability, and business growth.
  • Oversee the monthly financial close, internal controls, GAAP compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Lead and develop the Finance team while creating scalable processes and operational discipline.
  • Oversee strategic Human Resources administration, including benefits, HR policies, employee relations, and partnerships with external HR providers.
  • Coordinate Information Technology and Epicor ERP vendor relationships, ensuring technology supports business growth and operational excellence.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Purchasing, and executive leadership to improve financial performance across the organization.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • 4+ years in a senior finance leadership role such as Director of Finance, Controller, VP of Finance, or equivalent.
  • Manufacturing industry experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Cost Accounting
    • Standard Costing
    • Manufacturing Variance Analysis
    • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
    • GAAP
  • Experience presenting financial results and strategic recommendations to executive leadership or company ownership.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing finance teams.
  • ERP experience (Epicor preferred but not required).
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CMA preferred.
  • MBA is a plus.
  • CPA is welcome but not required.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This role has been intentionally designed to allow the Director to operate as a true strategic business partner-not simply oversee accounting operations.

Day-to-day accounting activities are supported by an experienced Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant, allowing you to focus on higher-value responsibilities including:

  • Executive financial strategy
  • Business planning
  • Operational decision support
  • Organizational leadership
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Long-term growth initiatives

You'll have the opportunity to influence decisions across every area of the business while serving as a trusted member of the executive leadership team.

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with operational understanding. The ideal candidate is:

  • A trusted advisor who earns credibility through sound judgment and thoughtful analysis.
  • A collaborative leader who enjoys developing people and building strong teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Skilled at translating complex financial information into actionable business recommendations.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and helping organizations scale successfully.

Compensation & Benefits

Our client offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, along with an excellent benefits program that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance
