Pea River Broadband is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pea River Cooperative, a not-for-profit, member-owned electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Ozark, Alabama, serving approximately 19,500 electric accounts. Pea River is seeking a motivated and dependable Broadband Technician I / Installer to install, maintain, and troubleshoot residential and business fiber-optic broadband services. This entry-level broadband technician role offers opportunities to develop skills in fiber installation, service restoration, outside-plant construction, splicing, and network maintenance while working alongside experienced technicians.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform all duties in compliance with Cooperative safety policies, industry regulations, and established work procedures while maintaining a safety-first mindset at all times.
- Learn and perform aerial and underground fiber installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, splicing, and repair.
- Complete assigned work to minimize service interruptions and ensure reliable broadband service for subscribers.
- Utilize optical testing and fiber maintenance equipment as trained and authorized.
- Read and interpret maps, work orders, construction prints, splice diagrams, and plant records.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to emergency and after-hours service calls as required.
- Safely operate Cooperative vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with subscribers and co-workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Cooperative's insurance program.
- Must reside in Dale, Henry, or Barbour County, Alabama, excluding Northern Barbour County.
- Experience in broadband, telecommunications, fiber-optic services, or a related field is preferred.
- Fiber Optic Certification from an accredited educational institution is preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of certification.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination, background investigation, and drug screen.
- Must be able to distinguish between color variations and accurately identify color-coded fiber-optic cables, conductors, wiring, and related equipment.
- Â Must have manual dexterity and the ability to work with hand tools and equipment.
- Must have strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in clear terms.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be willing and able to hang multiple spans of drop cable while working from a ladder.
- Must be willing to install and maintain cables in crawlspaces or attics.
- Must have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing to work from a van.
- Must be willing and able to dig a hole using a shovel, including digging trenches up to 50’ in length for the installation of fiber or conduit.
- Must have the ability to work outdoors at heights or around aerial and underground facilities as assigned, and in varying weather and terrain.
- Must be willing and able to carry an extension ladder weighing up to 75 pounds for distances up to 150 feet.
- Must be willing and able to climb a 28-foot extension ladder in line with OSHA standards and Cooperative guidelines.
- Must meet all Cooperative requirements for DOT, drug and alcohol testing, and safety-sensitive roles.
