Job Summary:

The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing safe, effective, and individualized fitness instruction to Wild River Fitness members. This position develops and delivers personalized exercise programs based on member goals, fitness levels, and abilities while promoting a positive, motivating, and inclusive fitness environment. The Personal Trainer supports member engagement, retention, and overall wellness by building positive relationships and helping members safely progress toward their health and fitness goals.


Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct fitness consultations and assessments to identify member goals, current fitness levels, and exercise needs
  • Develop individualized exercise and training programs based on member goals, abilities, and appropriate fitness principles
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group personal training sessions using safe and effective exercise techniques
  • Educate members on proper use of fitness equipment, exercise form, and injury prevention strategies
  • Monitor member progress and modify exercise programs as appropriate to support continued improvement and goal achievement
  • Provide motivation, encouragement, and accountability while maintaining a positive and professional training environment
  • Promote personal training services, fitness programs, and other Wild River Fitness offerings to encourage member participation and engagement
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to assessments, training programs, sessions, and member progress as required
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and recognize when members should be referred to a healthcare professional or other qualified provider
  • Monitor the fitness center environment and promptly report equipment concerns, safety hazards, injuries, or other facility issues
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe training environment and assist with general fitness center operations as needed
  • Collaborate with Member Services and fitness staff to coordinate services, communicate program updates, and support daily operations
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating OMC's Core Behavior Standards and supporting continuous improvement initiatives

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of exercise science, fitness principles, strength and cardiovascular training, flexibility, and general wellness concepts
  • Ability to develop safe and effective individualized exercise programs for members with varying fitness levels and goals
  • Knowledge of proper exercise technique, equipment use, and injury prevention principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with members and team members
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and educate members in a supportive and professional manner
  • Ability to recognize limitations, safety concerns, and situations requiring referral to an appropriate healthcare professional
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, maintain accurate records, and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with other fitness and healthcare team members
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, initiative, sound judgment, and adaptability
  • Commitment to providing a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment while modeling OMC's Core Behavior Standards

Physical Requirements for the Role: 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the fitness center for extended periods while providing training and assisting members
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform a variety of exercises and physical movements, including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and functional activities
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, squat, kneel, twist, and perform repetitive movements during training sessions and daily work activities
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull fitness equipment and materials as needed, including weights and equipment appropriate to the training environment
  • Ability to safely assist members with exercise equipment and positioning when appropriate
  • Ability to respond quickly to member needs, safety concerns, and emergencies within the fitness center
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically with members and team members
  • Visual acuity sufficient to observe member exercise performance, identify safety concerns, and monitor activity within the fitness center
  • Ability to frequently use a computer and other standard office equipment for scheduling, documentation, and administrative duties


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Current nationally recognized Personal Training Certification required, or the ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe
  • Current CPR/AED certification required, or the ability to become certified within a designated timeframe
  • Previous experience in personal training, fitness instruction, or a related field preferred
  • Additional certifications or education in specialized fitness areas preferred


Work Environment: 

This position is performed primarily in a fitness center environment that includes exercise spaces, strength and cardiovascular equipment, locker rooms, and common areas. The role requires frequent interaction with members, guests, healthcare staff, and other team members in an active and customer-focused setting. Team members may be exposed to varying noise levels, cleaning products, and fitness equipment. The position requires frequent physical activity and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support facility operations and member services.
