Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and student-centered English Language Learner (ELL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to provide full-time leave coverage in Ortonville, Minnesota from August 22, 2026 through December 22, 2026.

This opportunity is ideal for an educator who is passionate about supporting multilingual learners and helping students develop the English language skills necessary for academic success. The successful candidate will provide high-quality language instruction, collaborate with school staff and families, and support students in achieving their language proficiency and educational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct ESL/ELL instruction to students in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction focused on English language development.

  • Assess student language proficiency and use data to inform instruction and monitor progress.

  • Support students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement instructional strategies that support multilingual learners.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized language support plans as required.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, attendance, and service documentation.

  • Utilize evidence-based instructional practices to meet the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of students.

  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive learning environment that promotes language acquisition and academic achievement.

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and educational goals.

  • Participate in student support meetings, staff meetings, professional development activities, and required district trainings.

  • Collaborate with administrators, support staff, and educational teams to ensure student success.

  • Support students' social-emotional adjustment and cultural integration within the school environment.

  • Maintain compliance with Minnesota Department of Education and district requirements related to multilingual learner services.

  • Perform additional duties related to the assignment as directed by school administration.

Qualifications

  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.

  • Current ESL, ELL, EL, TESOL, or related endorsement/certification required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, TESOL, English Language Learning, Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of second-language acquisition and best practices for multilingual learners.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support personnel.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience providing ESL/ELL services in a K-12 educational setting.

  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.

  • Knowledge of language proficiency assessments and progress monitoring tools.
