Position Summary
The Electronics Systems Specialist supports the Electronics Team by managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing electronic infrastructure used across patient care, security, communications, and facility operations. This role serves as a senior technical resource for video display board systems, access control systems, video surveillance systems, infant protection systems, nurse call management, and patient access televisions. The position also provides team leadership, training, elevated network access support, and server management for assigned platforms
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Supports the Electronics Team in meeting organizational and departmental goals for safety, reliability, regulatory readiness, customer service, and operational performance.
- Administers, maintains, and troubleshoots video display board systems used for enterprise communication, wayfinding, clinical status display, and operational messaging.
- Provides technical support and lifecycle management for access control systems and related electronic system platforms, including configuration, testing, upgrades, vendor coordination, and documentation.
- Manages video surveillance systems, recording platforms, monitoring components, device connectivity, and associated hardware/software support needs.
- Supports access control systems and physical security systems, including credential-related workflows, access-control hardware, and integrations with organizational security processes.
- Maintains infant protection systems to support patient safety, alarm reliability, system availability, and operational compliance expectations.
- Administers nurse call infrastructure, including servers, workstations, middleware, communication devices, patient-room components, and escalation workflows.
- Supports patient access television and patient entertainment systems, including room-side devices, head-end systems, network connectivity, and vendor-based service restoration.
- Uses elevated network and system access to troubleshoot VLANs, switch ports, IP addressing, firewall pathways, wireless connectivity, server services, databases, and application-level dependencies related to assigned systems.
- Performs server management activities for supported systems, including monitoring, patch coordination, backup validation, user/access administration, service recovery, and configuration documentation.
- Serves as a technical lead and escalation point for complex electronics-system issues, outages, deployments, and enterprise projects.
- Provides daily guidance, knowledge transfer, and mentoring to Electronics Team members and Electronics Team personnel supporting assigned technologies.
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures, training materials, system configuration records, and troubleshooting guides for assigned platforms.
- Coordinates with Information Technology, Security, Facilities, Nursing, Clinical Engineering, vendors, and operational leaders to resolve issues and support new installs, upgrades, and integrations.
- Participates in project planning, capital equipment reviews, system assessments, and technology roadmaps related to electronic security, communication, nurse call, and patient engagement systems.
- Monitors system performance, incident trends, device failures, and support tickets to identify opportunities for improvement and risk reduction.
- Maintains compliance with Orlando Health policies, procedures, cybersecurity expectations, HIPAA/privacy requirements, and applicable accreditation or regulatory standards.
- Travels to Orlando Health facilities as needed to support system implementation, troubleshooting, training, inspections, and operational readiness.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Other Related Functions
- Participates in Orlando Health committees, staff meetings, project workgroups, technology reviews, and operational task forces as requested.
- Provides after-hours support, on-call coverage, and emergency response for critical electronic systems as scheduled or required.
- Coordinates vendor scheduling, service calls, quotes, warranty support, software maintenance, and documentation requirements.
- Assists with department scheduling, technical resource planning, system inventory accuracy, work-order updates, and service documentation.
- Presents self in a professional manner and supports a customer-focused service culture across all Orlando Health locations.
- Promotes staff development by delivering structured training, onboarding support, cross-training, and competency reinforcement for assigned technologies.
Qualifications
Education/ Training
- Associate's degree in Electronics Equipment Repair, Electronics Technology, Electronics, Computerized Technology, Information Technology, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, or related field. High School Diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years of directly related work experience may substitute for the associate’s degree, in addition to the experience requirements listed below.
Licensure/ Certification
- None required. preferred certifications may include manufacturer training or credentials related to nurse call, access control, camera systems, network administration, server administration, virtualization, or cybersecurity.
Experience
- Eight (8) years of directly related work experience in repair, implementation, administration, or support of computerized systems, electronic security systems, nurse call platforms, patient communication systems, networked devices, servers, or related healthcare technology infrastructure. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, training, technical guidance, and escalation support to others.
