JOB SUMMARY

Choice Hotels International is seeking a Senior Analyst, Analytics and Visualization Engineer who is passionate about turning data into decisions, not simply dashboards. As part of the Advanced Analytics team, you will design and deliver analytics products that combine business intelligence, artificial intelligence tools, and compelling data storytelling.

In this role, you will help franchisees, commercial teams, and senior leaders discover meaningful insights, explore data more easily, and take informed action. You will develop scalable, self-service analytics experiences that include visualizations, AI-generated narratives, conversational analytics, and automated reporting solutions. Working closely with data scientists, engineers, and business partners, you will help make governed data more accessible and useful across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Analytics and Data Storytelling

  • Design, build, and enhance Tableau dashboards that combine effective visualizations with AI-generated commentary about key business drivers, anomalies, and potential actions.

  • Transform complex analytical findings into clear, decision-oriented stories for audiences ranging from franchisees to senior executives.

  • Collaborate with data scientists to present model outputs and predictions through intuitive business intelligence experiences.

  • Prepare analytical views and supporting narratives for manager-led executive presentations and business discussions.

Conversational and AI-Enabled Analytics

  • Build and maintain analytics experiences that allow nontechnical users to explore governed data using natural-language questions.

  • Support the prototyping and refinement of workflows that integrate large language models with enterprise data sources.

  • Develop automated performance summaries and anomaly explanations under the direction of the manager.

  • Evaluate and improve AI-supported analytics experiences based on user needs, data quality, and business requirements.

Data Preparation and Analytics Infrastructure

  • Build and maintain governed data sources, flows, semantic layers, and published extracts that support dashboards and AI-enabled analytics products.

  • Write and optimize SQL queries against AWS Redshift and Amazon S3 data tables.

  • Validate and structure data to support accurate, reliable, and high-performing dashboards and automated reporting workflows.

  • Develop user-friendly analytics products beyond dashboards, including Python-generated Excel reports, automated workbooks, and lightweight analytical tools.

  • Coordinate with Data Engineering partners to identify data gaps, dependencies, and upstream issues affecting analytics products.

Collaboration and Delivery

  • Translate questions from franchise operations, revenue management, marketing, and other business areas into structured analytical requirements and user-ready solutions.

  • Partner with data scientists, engineers, product partners, and business stakeholders in an agile delivery environment.

  • Align stakeholders on governed definitions, reporting logic, and expected analytical outcomes.

  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining data accuracy, product reliability, and delivery commitments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Employment Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience developing Tableau dashboards, analytical reports, or data products.

  • 1-3 years years of experience writing SQL queries.

  • Experience working with semantic layers, governed metrics, reusable data models, or similar business intelligence practices.

  • Experience with AWS Redshift or another columnar database is preferred.

  • Experience developing data products or reporting solutions for business users is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Tableau and SQL.

  • Working knowledge of data modeling, joins, aggregation logic, semantic layers, and query-performance considerations.

  • Experience using database query tools such as DBVisualizer, DBeaver, or comparable applications.

  • Familiarity with AWS Redshift and Amazon S3.

  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Exposure to Jira, Confluence, or similar tools used for task tracking and documentation.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or comparable products, is preferred.

  • Exposure to Python-based reporting, automation, or lightweight analytical tools is preferred.

Additional Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate and resolve complex data or reporting issues.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

  • Ability to translate technical concepts and business requirements into clear, practical data solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting insights to technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of deliverables, manage competing priorities, and navigate ambiguity.

  • Collaborative approach to working with data scientists, engineers, product partners, and business stakeholders.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytics, data science, computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Relevant technical certifications are preferred but not required.
