About the Role:

The Lead Direct Support Professional (non-supervisory) plays a critical role in providing high-quality, person-centered care to individuals with developmental disabilities or other support needs. This position focuses on delivering direct support services that promote independence, dignity, and community integration while ensuring the health and safety of those served. The Lead DSP acts as a resource and mentor to other direct support staff, offering guidance and expertise without formal supervisory responsibilities. A key aspect of this role involves administering medication accurately and safely, adhering to all regulatory and organizational protocols. Ultimately, this position contributes to enhancing the quality of life for individuals by fostering a supportive and respectful environment tailored to their unique needs and goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or training in medication administration as required by state regulations.
  • Experience working in a direct support role within health care or social assistance settings.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in human services, healthcare, or related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience mentoring or providing informal leadership to peers.
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities and person-centered planning.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed medications to individuals according to established protocols and documentation requirements.
  • Provide direct personal care and support to individuals, assisting with daily living activities such as hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to other direct support staff, offering guidance on best practices and problem-solving strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records related to medication administration, health status, and behavioral observations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and team members to develop and implement individualized support plans.
