Media Relations Coordinator (Full-time):
Position Summary
GrowNYC’s Media Relations Coordinator executes social media strategy and policy for GrowNYC. The incumbent is responsible for the organization’s central accounts and providing guidance to the Advancement Team and programs that have a social media presence. In collaboration with the Director of Advancement and Communications Lead, the Media Relations Coordinator will help shape communications strategy on social media, drive community engagement, and protect the organization’s brand, ensuring that GrowNYC’s voice is maintained across all digital channels.Â
Requirements
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Digital Strategy and Content Creation
- Develop and execute digital and social media communication plans and strategy that is tailored to multiple audiences and amplifies multimedia communications and drives stakeholder engagement across all GrowNYC channels and is designed to influence public opinion.
- Oversee social media content and calendar.
- Ensure that GrowNYC press coverage is amplified through social media and promote GrownNYC’s organization, programs, and services in a timely fashion.
- Execute GrowNYC’s paid social media advertising and conceptualize digital campaigns to support fundraising goals in collaboration with Advancement Team.Â
- Receive and review internal directives and informational materials to help ensure digital media communications are always informed by and representative of GrowNYC’s current organizational objectives, policies, and goals.Â
- Plan and create custom communications and content for publication through digital channels in collaboration with various GrowNYC programs. This includes recording and editing short-form video content for social media.
- Interface with corporate sponsors to fulfill sponsorship agreements in collaboration with Corporate Partnerships Lead.
- Oversee and manage the organization’s online presence while maintaining its continuity across digital media platforms and ensuring rollout is according to schedule and drives engagement and brand awareness.
Training and Analytics
- Maintain and improve social media best practices for GrowNYC and help train other communicators on these practices.
- Work directly with other program teams to coordinate the production and publishing of various digital communication platforms: (written, video, audio, photo)
- Build relationships across GrowNYC’s content creators and team members to foster collaboration, ensure message and brand alignment, and increase engagement/reach of our digital efforts.
- Establish KPIs and ensure we are optimizing engagement and broadening the reach of digital marketing/fundraising efforts.
- Track, monitor, and review campaign performance based on data and analytics pertaining to Return on Investment (ROI) and other Key Performance Indicators (KPI).Â
- Ensure all content on GrowNYC social media channels do not run afoul of GrowNYC's 501c3 status.
- Develop, implement, and share within the organization’s search engine optimization and search engine marketing best practices that drive audience engagement.
- Conduct market research and audience segmentation to increase digital user base, increase brand awareness, and stay up to date on social media trends and practices.Â
- Conduct robust community engagement and social listening.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in media management, public relations or related field of study and 6 months of experience in organic social media content development and community management as social media coordinator or related occupation.
- Knowledge of media relations and public relations communication practices, ability to develop and distribute media and digital content across social media platformsÂ
- Ability to monitor and analyze digital and social media performance using analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics or equivalent), proficiency with digital content creation tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Canva and LinkedInÂ
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven success in social media campaign planning, management and reportingÂ
- Creative thinker and storyteller who can conceptualize and create content that reinforces brandÂ
- Capability to analyze data and make actionable data driven goals Â
- Demonstrated high attention to detail and personal organizationÂ
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work style
- Self-starting attitude with an ability to problem solve
Ideal Qualifications
- Interest in urban environmental and food systems is a plus
- Working experience with influencer marketing is desired
Physical Requirements
Ability to be seated for long periods of time.
Schedule
This role is required to work 35-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Compensation
This position is full-time, non-exempt with a salary of $75,254 and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). The position is not union-eligible/ not a part of the bargaining unit.
Location
This position is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days in the office in our Manhattan office and in the field capturing content at program sites. In-office presence is required every Wednesday.Â
