FlexStaff is seeking a Senior Estimator for our client, a leading HVAC company in Nassau County.Â
Position Overview:
The Senior Estimator is a highly experienced member of the Installation Estimating team responsible for leading complex commercial HVAC estimating activities and developing accurate, competitive, and profitable project proposals throughout the NY Tri-State area.
The Senior Estimator independently manages complex bids from initial review through final submission and serves as a technical resource to the estimating team. This position requires advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical construction, estimating methodologies, construction documents, labor requirements, material costs, and project risk.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the estimating process for complex and high-value commercial HVAC installation projects.
- Review and interpret complex mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, architectural documents, and customer scopes.
- Perform and oversee detailed material, labor, equipment, ductwork, piping, and subcontractor takeoffs.
- Develop comprehensive estimates, budgets, assumptions, exclusions, and proposal documents.
- Analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations and negotiate pricing when appropriate.
- Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, constructability concerns, and potential project risks.
- Develop conceptual budgets and preliminary estimates for projects with limited design information.
- Establish and maintain accurate historical cost data and estimating benchmarks.
- Coordinate with Operations, Project Management, Purchasing, and other internal departments during the estimating process.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, customer meetings, and scope reviews as required.
- Prepare and review final bid submissions for accuracy, completeness, and profitability.
- Assist management in establishing project pricing and estimating strategies.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Estimator I and Estimator II employees.
- Review estimates prepared by other team members when requested.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal personnel.
- Support post-bid reviews and assist with estimating lessons learned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or college education preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of commercial HVAC or mechanical construction experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial HVAC estimating experience preferred.
- Extensive experience with mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, and construction documents.
- Demonstrated experience with detailed HVAC takeoffs and complex project estimating.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior estimating personnel preferred.
