Job Summary:

The Outside Sales Associate is responsible for driving revenue growth by developing new business opportunities and maintaining strong relationships with contractors, builders, and other customers.  This role delivers exceptional customer service throughout all phases of the project, from initial consultation to completion.  The Outside Sales Associate regularly travels within an assigned territory to assess customer needs, develop customized solutions, and deliver results that meet or exceed expectations.  Success in this role requires strong sales skills, effective communication, sound judgment, and a proactive, results-oriented approach.  The ideal candidate thrives working independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with internal teams to ensure an outstanding customer experience and achieve business objectives.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:  High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Experience & Training:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the building materials, construction, or related industry.
    • Strong knowledge of building materials, products, applications, and industry practices.
    • Prior sales and/or customer service experience.
    • Some estimating experience in the building materials industry (preferred).
  3. Skills & Knowledge:
    • Proficiency with computer systems and internet applications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to identify customer needs and provide effective solutions.
    • Self-motivated with strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and other construction documents (preferred).
  4. Certifications:
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to pass an MVR screening.
    • Reliable transportation with insurance coverage meeting company requirements.
    • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  5. Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged periods of driving to customer locations and job sites
    • Frequent walking and standing at construction sites, retail locations, and customer offices
    • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone, and other office equipment
    • Ability to lift, carry, and transport product samples and materials (typically up to 20–50 lbs. occasionally)
    • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and climb (e.g., stairs, ladders, uneven terrain) as needed on job sites and handling supplies
    • Clear verbal and auditory ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone
    • Work occurs both in office and climate-controlled environments, as well as in outdoor weather conditions.
    • Classified as constant light work with occasional medium work.
