Description
About the role
We're adding an Operations Manager layer to lead production. This person owns a production area end to end — running the work to standard through an area manager tier, driving quality and throughput, keeping WIP and materials controlled, and delivering finished work on schedule and cleanly handed off to the next stage. You'll lead the floor, not run it yourself, and you'll be accountable for quality, flow, and a team held to standard. This is a builder's role for someone ready to lead an area like an owner.
What you'll own
- Lead the team. Lead your Area Manager(s) and, through them, the production team. Delegate daily execution so you operate in oversight and coaching. Run a documented 1:1 and feedback cadence, and apply recognition and standards fairly across the team.
- Standard work & quality. Ensure work instructions and client specs are documented and visible at the job — not delegated verbally. Own first-pass quality and drive rework down; root-cause recurring quality and schedule failures.
- Production flow. Own on-time-to-schedule for your area; plan capacity and labor to demand; remove bottlenecks; keep WIP flowing to the next stage. Confirm clean hand-offs out of your area.
- Materials & WIP. Keep materials and WIP identified, staged, transacted, and traceable; maintain materials accuracy to the Inventory Control standard; drive down scrap and waste.
- Setup & equipment. Standardize setup and changeover and improve changeover time; keep equipment on its preventive-maintenance schedule and downtime controlled.
- Safety, standards & reporting. Maintain a safe operation; uphold the Culture Book fairly and consistently; deliver a daily department snapshot and an on-time weekly update; escalate risks early
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Production / manufacturing best practices and a track record of running a production area to standard
- Warehouse and inventory fundamentals (materials, WIP, transactions)
- WMS / systems proficiency — Finale, OnSite and NetSuite a strong plus
- Demonstrated accountability leadership — comfortable delivering behavioral and performance corrective actions, and participating in hiring and termination decisions
- Lean methodology — practical application (5S, standard work, changeover reduction, waste/scrap reduction, root-cause problem solving)
- Time study and resource planning — can measure work, build realistic run/staffing standards, and plan labor and capacity to demand
- Project management — can plan, sequence, and drive a workstream to completion
- Crisis management — stays calm and decisive under rush jobs, staffing gaps, equipment issues, and peak volume
- Strong cross-functional coordination across art, sourcing, scheduling, and the warehouse hand-off
- Equipment familiarity for the area (presses, embroidery, heat press, finishing) and a safety-first orientation
What success looks like
- Quality is high and rework is trending down; standards are visible at the job, not in someone's head
- Jobs hit the committed schedule and hand off cleanly to the next stage
- WIP and materials are controlled, traceable, and accurate; scrap is trending down
- Your team runs the daily work through the Area Manager tier — you lead rather than do
Who should apply
Current team members ready to move from doing the work to leading it — especially strong operators or leads who already set the standard in their area and are ready to own it
