About the Job:
As a member of the Surgical Services team, the Certified Surgical Technologist On-Call identifies and prepares sterile instrumentation and equipment for surgical procedures and is readily available to respond to surgical emergencies outside of normal scheduled hours. This role assists the surgical team with patient verification, intra-operative procedures, and case closure protocols while maintaining a safe and sterile environment. The Certified Surgical Technologist works under the direction of the Circulator and is accountable to the OR Clinical Nurse Manager.
What You'll Do:
Identify and prepare sterile instrumentation and equipment for surgical procedures.
Assist the surgical team with patient verification processes.
Support intra-operative procedures and surgical case closure activities.
Review surgical bookings and match procedures to preference cards.
Select and prepare instrumentation using surgical preference cards.
Open surgical packs and instrumentation using sterile technique.
Inspect instruments for sterility, safety, and functionality.
Maintain and monitor the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
Participate in surgical briefings, time-outs, and consent verification.
Anticipate surgeon needs and communicate potential concerns during procedures.
Label medications and solutions appropriately within the sterile field.
Perform sponge and instrument counts and account for all instrumentation.
Prepare instruments for decontamination following procedures.
Follow established emergency protocols and respond appropriately to urgent situations.
Assist with orientation and training of new staff members.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are / Requirements:
Education
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program required.
Licensure/Certification
Tech in Surgery (TS-C) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
Current BLS certification required.
New Hampshire Medical Technologist registration required unless another current New Hampshire state license is held.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of Certified Surgical Technologist experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of current surgical best practices and guidelines.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a sterile environment.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Frequent use of fine motor and sensory skills.
Ability to work effectively in emergency and rapidly changing situations.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage competing demands.
Ability to complete required competencies, including:
Basic Life Support
Use of preference cards
Instrument preparation
Maintenance of sterile field
Surgical briefings and time-outs
Safe instrument handling

Instrument inventory and decontamination
