  • The ideal candidate should have 3 to 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment and possess strong negotiation skills and technical knowledge of industrial spare parts.
  • Key responsibilities include sourcing specialized MRO materials, managing part obsolescence, and optimizing inventory levels to ensure continuous operations.
  • Candidates should have a bachelor's or associate degree in supply chain management or a related field, with proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • This full-time position offers competitive benefits starting on Day 1, including medical, dental, vision, and a salary commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic MRO Buyer to oversee the procurement of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials for our advanced amorphous steel ribbon manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be the lifeline of our operations, securing specialized critical spares, managing complex engineering obsolescence, and mitigating long lead times to ensure continuous, 24/7 rapid-solidification casting and winding operations. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical familiarity with industrial spare parts, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to supply chain logistics and inventory optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Procurement & Obsolescence Management

  • Source and purchase specialized MRO materials, including precision machinery spares, induction heating components, refractories, high-wear tooling, electrical controls, and custom subassemblies.
  • Order Management: Process purchase orders, track deliveries, and follow up on overdue receipts.
  • Proactively manage part obsolescence by collaborating with maintenance, processes engineering and operations to identify, test, and source functional substitutions or retrofit kits for discontinued parts.
  • Review engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to ensure sourced components meet strict dimensional, thermal, and electrical tolerances.

2. Strategic Sourcing & Lead-Time Mitigation

  • Analyze and mitigate long-lead-time risks (6–12+ months) for critical production components by establishing proactive reorder points and blanket purchase orders (BPOs).
  • Build a resilient supplier network by identifying and qualifying alternative or secondary domestic and international vendors for single-sourced components.

3. Negotiation & Cost Control

  • Execute RFQs and total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses to secure competitive commercial terms, comparing options like vendor repair/refurbishment versus full replacement.
  • Negotiate high-value agreements, focusing on unit pricing, lead-time guarantees, payment terms, and Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs).
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives through volume consolidation, localized contract manufacturing, and Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) frameworks.

4. Inventory, Logistics & Storage Control

  • Optimize stock levels within our [ERP/CMMS system, e.g., Oracle, establishing precise minimum/maximum inventory thresholds and safety stock levels.
  • Manage inbound logistics and customs clearance for imported components, coordinating expedited hot-shot deliveries or international air freight during critical equipment breakdowns.
  • Coordinate specialized storage and care for high-value items, including moisture-sensitive refractories, heavy precision rolls, and sensitive electronics.
  • Track off-site repairs for components sent out for precision resurfacing, motor rewinding, or professional calibration.

5. Compliance & Supplier Performance

  • Evaluate supplier performance Metrics (KPIs), specifically monitoring On-Time Delivery (OTD), price variance, and order accuracy.
  • Maintain full alignment with internal financial controls, corporate authorization matrixes, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) guidelines.

Job Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of [3–5+] years of experience as an MRO Buyer, Procurement Specialist, or Material Planner in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment (e.g., steel mills, metal casting, paper mills, chemical processing, or automotive fabrication).
  • Education: Bachelor’s or associate degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related technical field (highly preferred). Equivalent combination of education and hands-on industrial procurement experience will be considered.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical subassemblies, industrial automation components (PLCs, drives, sensors), hydraulics, pneumatics, and precision bearings.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience navigating and managing data within major ERP and CMMS platforms e.g. Oracle. Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
  • Logistics Acumen: Proven experience managing freight routing, expedited hot-shots, and understanding international shipping/customs processes.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional negotiation skills, analytical problem-solving ability, resilient stress management, and clear technical communication skills.
