Purpose/ Summary

The Engineering Manager provides the required oversight, input and direction to assure that manufacturing process directions, tooling concepts and designs meet or exceed all internal program goals (ease of manufacture, cost effective manufacturing and profitability) as well as all customer requirements (quality and delivery). The successful candidate will relentlessly apply the principles of the Pursuit Production System (PPS) to continuously improve first time yield, scrap, cost, quality and delivery performance.

The Engineering Manager will directly manage engineers responsible for forge part design, tooling, fixture and gage design & development.  The Engineering Manager will also provide guidance and training for engineers directly managed by Business Unit Managers.

The Engineering Manager relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while leading and directing the efforts of the Engineering staff. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. This position is located in Morton, IL and is 100% onsite work.

  • Direct and monitor the technical activities of assigned Engineers. 
  • Review and approve manufacturing processes as required.
  • Ensure assigned engineering processes meet all compliance requirements including customer and Nadcap certifications.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit Mangers to ensure that all manufacturing processes and tooling will produce a technical product which meets all customer requirements (quality and delivery) as well as internal goals (ease of manufacture and profitability).
  • Effectively interface with the customer at all levels.
  • Conduct continuous process improvements through application of the Pursuit Production System to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce cost, improve profitability and reduce product lead/cycle time.
  • Resolves highly complex technical issues and conducts research as required. 
  • Investigate and recommend machine tool and equipment needs to accomplish or improve the required manufacturing process capabilities or capacity.
  • Create NPI timelines and lead NPI review meetings.
  • Maintain customer-owned tooling history and inventory audit requests.
  • Identify related processing and manufacturing abnormalities and identify/initiate corrective actions as required. 
  • Provide technical direction and leadership in recommending changes in design, specifications, drawings and procedures that will improve producibility and productivity, or reduce scrap/rework related cost and/or lead-time.
  • Assist with the timely review of non-conforming material activity is completed.
  • Visit supplier plants as required to assure that the supplier manufacturing process meets or exceeds all company and customer requirements (delivery and quality). Assure that the supplier manufacturing process will produce technical product in the required quantity and in accordance with the product delivery schedule. 
  • Perform duties/responsibilities related to this position as assigned by the General Manager.
  • Assist in shop floor personnel training as applicable and deemed necessary.
  • Develop market awareness and promote company visibility efforts.
  • Evaluate, train, coach and when necessary, discipline employees.
  • Must support all EH & S (Environmental, Health & Safety) requirements within the facility and improve ergonomics of associated tooling relative to each process.
  • Participate in proposal development, negotiations, and review and approval of product contracts.
  • Develop and foster a team environment.
  • Participate in (and at times lead) investigations relating to customer quality concerns and product escapes.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology within the company core processes
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related technical field. 
  • 8 years of experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time bases without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full-time basis.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6 sigma, complex technical product knowledge. 
  • Exceptional motivation, leadership, and team building skills required.

  • Ability to oversee several simultaneous projects with the proper delegating skills and the precise amount of involvement without interference, allowing the specifically designated personnel to perform their tasks.
