Overview

The Medical Assistant supports WakeMed’s Pediatric Gastroenterology team by providing compassionate, family-centered care to pediatric patients in a specialty ambulatory setting. Working under the direction and delegation of a provider, this role partners closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality clinical care and an exceptional patient experience. The ideal candidate brings experience caring for children and adolescents, excels at building trusting relationships with patients and families, and thrives in a complex specialty environment focused on improving health outcomes for pediatric endocrine conditions.

 

What You'll Do

  • Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medications, and other clinical information accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments within the scope of practice.
  • Coordinate patient care activities, including referrals, authorizations, follow-up appointments, and patient education.
  • Support patients and families by clearly communicating care plans, treatment instructions, and next steps.
  • Prepare exam rooms, maintain supplies, and ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff to promote seamless patient care.
  • Respond to patient and family questions with professionalism, empathy, and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Follow clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and organizational policies to ensure quality outcomes.

 

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a specialty care, pediatric, or ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Flexibility in traveling to other locations to meet the needs of our patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with pediatric patients and their families.
  • Experience supporting patients with complex medical needs and coordinating care across multiple providers and services preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering safe, accurate patient care.
  • A collaborative team player who values partnership, professionalism, and continuous learning.
