Are you mechanically inclined and enjoy solving problems? Do you have experience working on engines, motors, automotive systems, diesel equipment, HVAC equipment, agricultural equipment, or other mechanical systems?
Adams, Inc. is growing and seeking a Generator Service Technician to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on residential and light commercial standby generator systems. This position focuses on service work, with occasional install support, for leading brands including Generac, Kohler, and Briggs & Stratton.

What You'll Do
- Perform scheduled maintenance and service on standby generator systems
- Complete oil changes, filter replacements, battery inspections, and performance testing
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, fuel, ignition, and engine-related issues
- Repair and replace defective components
- Utilize manufacturer diagnostic tools and service information to identify and correct equipment problems
- Complete electronic service documentation and customer notes using an iPad
- Manage multiple service appointments daily, often completing 5+ service calls per day
- Assist, as needed, with Generator/Home Backup Power installs for new customers
- Communicate findings and recommendations professionally with customers
- Maintain inventory and organization of company-provided vehicle, tools, and equipment
- Respond to emergency service requests as needed
- Participate in ongoing technical training and manufacturer certification programs
- Represent Adams, Inc. professionally at all customer locations
What Makes This Role Unique
This is a field-based position serving customers throughout Northern Illinois and surrounding service areas. Technicians may travel extensively throughout the day, covering a large service territory from the Morris area.
A company vehicle is provided, and you'll receive training and support to become certified through:
- Generac
- Kohler
- Briggs & Stratton

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- 2+ years experience working with combustion engines, motors, or mechanical equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Electrical experience a plus
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems independently
- Ability to comfortably use an iPad and mobile applications
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily service schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- Generator service experience
- Automotive, diesel, small engine, agricultural equipment, industrial maintenance, electrical, or HVAC service experience
- Experience with ServiceTitan
- Manufacturer certifications from Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, or similar providers
- Technical or trade school education
Pay & Compensation
$26.00 - $34.00 per hour, depending on experience, technical ability, certifications, and overall qualifications. Opportunities exist for additional earnings through overtime, emergency service work, and future advancement opportunities.
