The Impact You’ll Have:
As a Traffic Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting a variety of traffic engineering projects while working alongside and learning from experienced professionals. You’ll contribute to meaningful work involving traffic studies, traffic signal design and operations, signing and pavement marking plans, traffic management, and multimodal transportation improvements for state, county, and municipal clients. This internship provides the opportunity to develop technical skills, apply engineering concepts, and make a real impact on transportation projects in our communities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with preliminary and final design of projects - signals, lighting, ITS, signing and pavement markings.
- Perform traffic analysis and simulation modeling for transportation studies and corridor design projects.
- Support the development of traffic signal timing plans for urban arterials.
- Perform roadway safety analyses for transportation plans.
- Assist with preparation of transportation study reports and supporting documents.
- Coordinate design decisions with other engineering disciplines.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute work in a safe, timely, cost-effective and compliant manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong technical and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
- Exposure to or interest in learning engineering design software such as SimTraffic, Vissim, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Internship begins May 2027 and will conclude in August 2027.

The pay rate for this position is expected to be $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
