Primary Purpose

To experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment. The intern will support the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team by analyzing workplace injury data and evaluating key safety programs across manufacturing operations. The project will focus on identifying trends related to the top causes of injuries and assessing the effectiveness of Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and Industrial Hygiene programs. Working alongside Safety, Operations, and Production teams, the intern will develop recommendations that support continuous improvement and help strengthen workplace safety performance. 

Project Highlights

  • Analyze injury trends to identify the top causes of workplace injuries and support data-driven safety initiatives.
  • Use trend analysis to help determine root causes and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Evaluate Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and Industrial Hygiene programs to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Gain hands-on experience with occupational safety programs, exposure monitoring equipment, and regulatory compliance practices.
  • Collaborate with Safety, Operations, and Production teams to strengthen workplace safety performance and employee well-being.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university (Pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety or related fields is preferred).
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Must pass the Mountaire Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate safety data, identify trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and utilize Industrial Hygiene monitoring equipment, including sound dosimeters and other exposure monitoring instruments.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated team player committed to workplace safety, compliance, and operational excellence.         

 

Internship Program Requirements

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities
  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 2 - 6, 2027)
  •  All interns are required to complete a 10 minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 2-6. 
  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)
  • Anticipated weekly schedule for this internship is M-F, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
