Summary: Viper Energy, Inc. (“Viper”) is headquartered in Midland, Texas, and was formed by Diamondback Energy (“Diamondback”) to own, acquire and exploit oil and natural gas properties in North America, with a focus on owning and acquiring mineral and royalty interests in oil-weighted basins, primarily in the Permian Basin in West Texas.

The Viper Business Development Landman Intern will own an assigned summer project while working directly on the acquisition side of the business, including mineral and royalty acquisition evaluation, ownership and title research, courthouse and county records work, purchase and sale agreement review, and deal diligence. This role sits with the team that sources, underwrites, and closes mineral and royalty transactions.

Duration: Approximately 12 weeks (May – August 2027)


 

Job Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to

  • Work on an assigned, individual Business Development Land project throughout the summer, culminating in a presentation of the completed project to Diamondback’s executive team
  • Develop and increase knowledge in all phases of mineral and royalty acquisitions and divestitures under the direction of an assigned, experienced mentor
  • Research and analyze leases, deeds, conveyances, purchase and sale agreements, and other instruments to determine ownership, burdens, and acquisition value
  • Confirm mineral and royalty ownership through courthouse, county records, and division order research to support offers on acquisition targets
  • Assist in negotiations with mineral and royalty owners, prepare offer packages and letters of intent, and support due diligence and title curative on pending transactions
  • Build and maintain acquisition target lists and track competitor, operator, and transaction activity across the Permian Basin
  • Support underwriting of acquisition opportunities by gathering production, activity, and ownership data used in valuation models
  • Work directly with teams across other disciplines to experience what working in an Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company is like
  • Participate in on-site field visits to learn about field operations, including an active drilling rig and active completions spread
  • Participate in intern events and philanthropic endeavors that support the Midland-Odessa community

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Energy Management/Energy Commerce, Finance, or a related business discipline
  • Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to work in Midland, TX for the duration of the internship
  • Must be returning to school for the Fall 2027 semester

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher
  • Extracurricular achievements or prior work experience
  • Coursework or experience in mineral/royalty ownership, title research, or transaction analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Membership in the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL)
