Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Position Purpose

Under the direction of a licensed medical provider, the Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients, ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient clinical operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform patient interviews and obtain relevant health information

  • Prepare patients for provider care and examinations

  • Measure vital signs; observe, report, and document patient signs and symptoms in the medical record

  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms for patient examinations

  • Provide basic first aid as needed

  • Perform basic laboratory procedures and/or collect routine laboratory specimens within scope of practice

  • Assist patients with ambulation and the use of assistive devices

  • Participate in individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient records

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with healthcare regulations

  • Adhere to infection control standards, hospital policies, and departmental procedures

  • Monitor equipment functionality and assist with inventory management

  • Adapt to change and support workplace initiatives in a positive and professional manner

  • Work irregular or extended hours as required

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required

Experience

  • One (1) year of clinical experience strongly preferred

Work Conditions

This position regularly involves exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens and direct patient contact in a variety of situations. The role may include exposure to unpleasant elements such as injuries, illness, and chemicals. Candidates must be able to manage emergency, crisis, or high-pressure situations, handle frequent interruptions, and work varying or irregular hours. Sound judgment is required, as actions may directly impact patient outcomes.
