About the Role:

The Sales Associate is responsible for developing new business and supporting existing customer relationships for Metro Trailer Leasing. This position focuses on helping customers meet their transportation equipment needs through short-term rentals and longer-term leasing solutions.

The Sales Associate will work closely with customers to understand their equipment needs, provide pricing and availability information, coordinate with branch and operations personnel, and follow opportunities through to completion. This role requires a proactive sales approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to build long-term relationships with customers in the transportation, logistics, manufacturing, and distribution industries.

Success in this position will be measured by customer growth, equipment utilization, rental and lease activity, and the ability to provide responsive and dependable service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous sales, customer service, account management, or business development experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional customer relationships.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with the branch and operations teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in trailer rental, leasing, transportation, trucking, logistics, or equipment rental.
  • Business-to-business sales experience.
  • Experience developing new accounts through prospecting and outbound sales activity.
  • Familiarity with commercial trailers and transportation equipment.
  • Experience using CRM, rental, leasing, or fleet-management software.
  • Knowledge of transportation and logistics markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new rental and leasing opportunities through prospecting, referrals, customer visits, phone calls, and other sales activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing customers while identifying opportunities to increase business.
  • Work with customers to determine trailer and equipment requirements based on their operational needs.
  • Provide customers with information regarding equipment availability, rental and lease rates, terms, and company services.
  • Prepare quotes and assist with rental and lease documentation.
  • Follow up consistently on open quotes, leads, and customer inquiries.
  • Coordinate with branch personnel to confirm equipment availability and ensure customers receive the appropriate equipment.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers regarding current and future equipment needs.
  • Monitor local market activity and identify potential customers and business opportunities.
  • Assist with customer account development and retention efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer contacts, quotes, and opportunities.
  • Work with management and other departments to resolve customer issues and provide a high level of service.
  • Represent Metro Trailer Leasing professionally during customer meetings, branch visits, and industry events.

Skills:

Strong sales and relationship-building skills are essential for developing new business and maintaining long-term customer relationships. The Sales Associate must be comfortable prospecting for new customers, discussing pricing and equipment needs, and following opportunities through completion.

Communication and customer-service skills are critical because the position works closely with customers, branch personnel, and management throughout the rental and leasing process. Strong organization and follow-up are also important when managing multiple customers, quotes, equipment requests, and sales opportunities simultaneously.

Knowledge of commercial trailers, transportation equipment, and the trucking and logistics industry is beneficial and will help the Sales Associate better understand customer needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
