Postdoctoral Scholar-Pediatrics CDD

The University of Tennessee Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody is seeking a Psychology Postdoctoral Scholar for a doctoral-level trainee who has been matched with our program. This position receives training in child welfare and trauma-informed care at the UT Health Sciences Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody for one year. This position will be supervised by a licensed psychologist with primary responsibility assigned to the Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody (COE) and its interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include providing direct mental health services, including clinical evaluations, psychological testing, therapeutic interventions, case consultations, and providing university and community training in mental health/psychology.

Responsibilities

1. Provides psychological assessment, intervention, and consultation services as assigned.

2. Attends didactic sessions as assigned.

3. Completes required training hours. 

4. Gathers and reviews client records.

5. Completes clinical evaluations, psychological testing, and interviews.

6. Write up comprehensive evaluation reports from testing data

7. Develops care plans and writes reports in a timely manner.

8. Participates in PCIT Clinic and other therapy clinics, if indicated.

9. Provides supervision to predoctoral interns, if indicated

10. Represents COE at community and state agency meetings.

11. Provides consultation services to DCS, community agencies and health services providers

12. Provides education/training to community agencies

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in a Psychology-related field. The program accepts applicants graduating from clinical, counseling, and school psychology programs (Ph.D. or PsyD) with a variety of internship experiences, but gives preference to applicants from APA-accredited schools and internships. Applicants from non-APA-accredited doctoral programs must have attended a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Potential fellows must complete all degree requirements (per APPIC, this is defined as providing either a diploma or a letter from a director of graduate studies verifying the completion of all degree requirements pending institution graduation ceremony), including a predoctoral internship, prior to beginning fellowship.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES PREFERRED: 

• Strong foundation in evidence-based assessment for cognitive, academic, and adaptive functioning of children.

• Interest in developing competency in trauma-informed assessment for children and families.

• Experience in working with diverse, underserved, and psychologically complicated child patient populations who have experienced complex trauma.

• Commitment to expanding and deepening understanding of trauma, differential diagnosis, and tailored recommendations for children and families.

• Desire to work with providers of various disciplines to conceptualize psychological presentation
