Description
PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dealership’s accounting office and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and financial workflows. This role manages administrative and accounting staff, reconciles designated accounts and bank statements, oversees month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensures timely and accurate sales tax filings. The Senior Accountant also serves as the primary contact for vendor billing issues and supports leadership by maintaining accurate, transparent, and compliant financial records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee daily operations of the accounting office, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with dealership accounting standards.
- Manage and support administrative and accounting staff, including training, workflow oversight, and performance guidance.
- Perform reconciliation of designated general ledger accounts, bank statements, and financial schedules.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is complete and accurate.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly sales tax filings in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard dealership assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Review, analyze, and resolve vendor billing issues; serve as primary liaison for vendor communication.
- Ensure accurate posting of transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and payroll-related entries.
- Collaborate with department managers to ensure proper documentation, timely reporting, and adherence to financial procedures.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as requested by leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information at all times.
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned to support dealership operations.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or finance required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounts payable, receivable or general accounting is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Experience in Tekion DMS or equivalent systems and dealership management systems preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
