OT Dynamics is looking for an experienced Lab Technician to join our team in Lynchburg. This is a hands-on laboratory support position responsible for producing and testing paint samples, maintaining lab equipment and standards, and supporting formulation projects under the direction of the Technical Director and senior lab staff. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Take direction from the Technical Director on all Lab Request projects. 
  • Must be able to meet requested deadlines on all Lab Request projects. 
  • Make and test all paint samples required by the Lab Request. 
  • Produce liquid paint samples by following formulation recipes (typical sizes: ½ pint to 1 quart; occasional 5-gallon pails for trials). 
  • Perform physical property testing (adhesion, abrasion resistance, stain/chemical resistance, scratch resistance, gloss retention, etc.). 
  • Conduct color matching. 
  • Assist with application and formulation studies (DOE's) as directed by the Technical Director. 
  • Keep an accurate notebook on project files with formulations and test results. 
  • Investigate PARs (Product assurance requests) through the direction of the Technical Director. 
  • Fill raw materials from factory stock. 
  • Assist in quality control when necessary. 
  • Use the manufacturing software on a routine basis for formulating and assigning correct hazard information. 
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment according to Quality Management Systems requirements. 
  • Maintain 5S standards, including cleaning spray booths, work areas, and equipment. 
  • Follow EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) best practices and maintain required training. 
  • Dispose of waste in proper waste streams. 
  • Maintain clean personal work area and assist in general cleanup of shared community areas. 
  • Compliance with all safety rules, including using PPE issued by the company. 
  • Ability to work as a team player. 
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary. 
  • Adherence to company policy in giving advance notice for vacation and personal leave. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Technical & Functional Skills 

  • Experience with liquid paint applications. 
  • Familiarity with coating testing or measurement devices. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and logical thinking. 
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to follow customer and internal testing specifications and methods. 

Qualifications & Education Requirements 

  • Must pass a drug test. 
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. 
  • High school diploma required; scientific background preferred. 
  • Previous experience at a paint company or similar industry preferred. 
  • Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals along with good communication and organization skills.
  • Good math, reading, and computer skills. 
  • The ability to function both independently and as part of a team is required.
