PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Lead Maintenance Tech will lead a multi-craft team of workers in the maintenance and repair of steam & power generation equipment, HVAC systems, auxiliary equipment, and controls. Responsibilities include planning and scheduling maintenance, risk analysis, cost control, safety assurance, & repair and testing of equipment. This role will occasionally oversee contract labor and outside contractors to support outages, projects, or to supplement department work force, and be responsible for ensuring safety as well as environmental compliance, cost effective repairs, and reliable and efficient operation of plant equipment in support of the Company's goals and objectives.

 The Lead Maintenance Tech has the responsibility to adhere to the Company's business and ethical standards and to assure compliance with all applicable government and industry regulations and practices.

Approximately 50% of the work will be administrative/planning duties, 50% will be performance of Instrumentation & Controls tasks such as calibrations and repairs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving parts and outside weather conditions.

 The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold.

 The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, hazardous chemicals.

 The employee is exposed to high noise level areas where hearing protection is required.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb walk, hear and use hands. 

 Required to reach with hands and arms and to climb and balance.

 Required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

 Required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Responsible for planning and assigning daily work tasks for the maintenance team.
  • Provides feedback to management regarding maintenance team performance.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) to plan and schedule maintenance, track man-hours, and report status of tasks.
  • Orders parts to support preventive and corrective maintenance; maintains and tracks spare parts inventory.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Instrumentation & Controls systems
  • Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems as necessary.
  • Perform calibrations and testing of equipment; maintain custody records of calibration and test equipment.
  • Use troubleshooting skills to diagnose system and equipment problems.
  • Perform installation/replacement of plant equipment and systems.
  • Assist in vendor sourcing to ensure the best value and highest quality for the DC Water Cogeneration Facility.
  • Install revisions or modifications to plant systems, update controls drawings and schematics.
  • Communicate and interact with inter-departmental personnel, vendors, and customer as necessary to accomplish tasks.
  • Follow all approved plant operating, maintenance and health and safety procedures.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Decisions are made based on formal procedures, calculations, deductive reasoning, and consultation with supervisor.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • This position may be required to work overtime to support vacations, plant outages, emergency work, etc.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years power plant or industrial plant, I & C maintenance experience, or related technical (trade or military) experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, data, operating and maintenance instructions, one-line diagrams, ladder logic, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write work orders and give & understand verbal communications.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Experience with analytical troubleshooting techniques and root cause failure analysis.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, basic steam plant and combustion turbine knowledge.
  • Familiarity with maintenance planning software such as Maximo or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of plant instrumentation & controls, such as control valves, pressure transmitters, flow meters, & Programmable Logic Controllers ( PLC's )
