Industrial Painter

Position Overview
The Industrial Painter plays a key role in preparing and painting motors, machinery components, and industrial parts of all sizes. Using specialized industrial painting techniques, the painter applies high-quality coatings that deliver durable, professional finishes meeting both functional and aesthetic standards. This role suits a proactive, safety-conscious individual who takes pride in precision work and thrives in a collaborative, production-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Paint Application
- Apply coatings with HVLP spray guns, airless sprayers, and brushes to achieve uniform coverage on components of all sizes.
- Perform multi-coat systems, including primers, topcoats, and specialty finishes built for industrial durability.
- Mix and match paints, coatings, and finishes to precise specifications, adjusting viscosity, color, and texture as needed.
- Learn and apply all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for surface prep and painting.
- Maintain working knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals and lubricants.
- Clean, sand, mask, and prime surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion and a flawless final coat.
- Inspect incoming parts for contaminants or defects before painting.
- Inspect painted parts and correct flaws such as drips, sags, thin spots, or improper texture.
- Ensure all coatings meet required thicknesses and adhere to industry standards and customer specifications.
Equipment & Material Handling
- Operate forklifts, hoists, and lifts safely and in accordance with OSHA and company standards, maintaining constant control of the load.
- Maintain and calibrate painting equipment to ensure consistent, high-quality output.
Recordkeeping & Inventory
- Track paint usage, batch numbers, and color formulas for repeat jobs and compliance purposes.
- Store flammable and hazardous materials properly and keep the paint booth orderly.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the motors team to prioritize work orders and meet delivery deadlines.
- Partner with supervisors to develop and implement continuous improvements to painting-department efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
- Experience painting heavy equipment, automobiles, or related items preferred.
- Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and industrial-grade coatings preferred.
- Proficiency with spray equipment, including an understanding of spray patterns, coating thickness, and drying times.
- Ability to identify and resolve common paint defects.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for maintaining spray guns and related equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on professional, long-lasting finishes.
- Persistence and a problem-solving mindset when working through challenges.
- Able to work 40 hours per week on a regular basis (excluding holidays and PTO), with availability for additional hours to support rush jobs and special customer needs.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work in tight or confined spaces and other adverse locations.
- Able to lift heavy components up to 75 lbs.
- Able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Work is performed indoors in a motor shop environment, with exposure to mechanical, electrical, and environmental hazards and varying temperatures.
- Travel is not anticipated for this position.
