Sports Coordinator / Manager on Duty (MOD)

Position Overview

The Sports Coordinator / Manager on Duty (MOD) is a shared position supporting both the Sports and Membership/Operations departments. The position is responsible for coordinating sports programs and providing exceptional member and guest service while serving as the lead staff member during assigned MOD shifts.

Sports Responsibilities - Up to 20 Hours/Week

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate sports leagues, practices, clinics, camps, and special events across multiple sports.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise coaches, referees, scorekeepers, contractors, and seasonal staff.
  • Coordinate facility and equipment setup, ensuring fields, gymnasiums, and program spaces are safe and ready for use.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and report safety or facility concerns.
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants, parents, members, and guests; respond to questions and resolve program or game-day concerns professionally.
  • Ensure programs follow applicable league rules, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain appropriate first aid supplies and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Manage the Sports Department budget, including equipment, contractors, seasonal staff, program revenue, and other assigned budget items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Manager on Duty Responsibilities - Up to 20 Hours/Week

  • Greet and assist members, prospective members, and guests, providing a welcoming and professional experience.
  • Support front desk and membership activities as needed, including answering phones, checking members into the facility, and providing tours to prospective members.
  • Serve as the point person for daily program and room setups, ensuring spaces are prepared on time.
  • Conduct regular building rounds to monitor safety, security, cleanliness, and overall facility conditions.
  • Serve as the lead staff member during emergency situations and follow the Emergency Response Plan.
  • Maintain a working relationship with Security and report suspicious activity, unattended packages, or other safety concerns.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to member questions and concerns, escalating issues to the appropriate department director when necessary.
  • Remain in the facility and fully available throughout the assigned MOD shift.
  • Assist with maintaining the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. A degree in sports management, recreation, physical education, or a related field may be helpful but is not required.
  • Experience coordinating or managing adult or youth recreational sports programs preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to interact positively and professionally with members, guests, staff, volunteers, and participants of all ages.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy, professionalism, and appropriate judgment.
  • Ability to learn and navigate basic computer and membership/program software.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Positive, energetic attitude and a genuine interest in sports and recreation.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and game-day events.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to safety and emergency situations.

Position Structure

This is a shared position between the Sports and Membership/Operations departments, with an anticipated schedule of up to 20 hours per week supporting Sports and up to 20 hours per week supporting Operations.
