The Role:Â
Great Plains Mfg is seeking an experienced 1st shift Forklift Operator at our facility in Ellsworth, KS.Â
Â
This position works Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, with overtime on Fridays as required.Â
Â
Essential Duties and Responsibilities-include the following. Â Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
- Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand, forklift, hoist or crane.
- Load materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Secure lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signal crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
- Count, weigh, and record number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet or computer while maintaining accurate inventory quantities.
- Attach identifying tags or labels to materials; mark information on cases, bales, or other containers.
- Stack or assemble materials into bundles and band bundles together.
- Lift heavy objects by hand or with power hoist; clean work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
- Assemble crates to contain products, such as parts or products, using handtools and precut lumber.
- Understanding and use of AS400 and RF units to find location of parts, routing, product structure and parts availability.
- Assist in receiving of parts from vendor and route truck.
- Assist with cycle counts as needed.
- Daily inspection and safe operation of forklift.
- Operate industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:Â
- Previous forklift operator experience is required
- Ability to understand team concepts and be a strong team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to excel in fast-paced, high-pressure situations and be results-oriented
- Understanding of lean concepts and willing to implement change
- Ability to follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed PPE as required
