Position Overview

TRATON's group Climate Systems - US, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer role. This strategic position is within Cab Engineering. HVAC Systems Engineering is accountable for all design development and system ownership of HVAC systems across all our commercial vehicles, including conventional powertrain and electric vehicles for both trucks and buses. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and Lead the HVAC solutions for emerging programs. 
  • Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. 
  • Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, servicing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution.  
  • Support all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line. 
  • Contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals. 
  • Minimal supervision in a complex environment. 
  • Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. 
  • Work collaboratively and support project teams to achieve milestones and objectives
  • Leads Climate System Development within the HVAC organization as well as within other organizations in Traton Global R&D group. 
  • Leads development of energy efficient thermal systems and stay in forefront within the team on new systems development for both electrical vehicles and combustion engine solutions. 
  • Contributes to the development of Climate System functional strategy, architecture and roadmap for broad and positive impact on business. 
  • Familiar with internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues. 
  • Utilize advanced knowledge and decision-making skills for HVAC and thermal management system development.  
  • Act as liaison cross-functionally and networks for HVAC and Thermal management within the Traton Global R&D. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 2 years of product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 1 year of product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Experience in any 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) Modeling software 
  • Experience in designing Climate systems on light/heavy commercial vehicles 
  • Expertise in truck and/or automotive design and development process 
  • Experience in design release process 
  • Creation and execution of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Design Required
  • Documents (DRDs) and Design Verification Plans (DVPs), MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project 
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, stamping, blow molding, injection molding of plastics 
  • Experience in problem solving tools such as Root Cause Analysis such as 8D, Design for Six-sigma (DFSS), Lean Manufacturing 
  • Experience in project management 
  • Experience with working on timing plans and cost planning 
  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills 
  • Experience with formal presentations to senior management
