Position Overview
The Procurement Category Manager – Transportation will lead transportation procurement, strategic sourcing, and supplier management strategies for ground transportation services, including Less-than-Truckload (LTL), Dedicated Delivery Service (DDS), Full Truckload (FTL), parcel, and related logistics support. This position will work cross functionally within International with logistics, finance, direct material procurement, operations, and suppliers. The role will be responsible for developing transportation sourcing strategies, managing carrier relationships, driving cost reductions, improving service performance, and negotiating and executing supplier agreements. In addition, this position will collaborate with VW brands and TRATON to identify scale, leverage, and process improvement opportunities across the transportation network.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for transportation services that align with International’s business objectives
- Lead strategic sourcing decisions for new scope as well as current business to improve cost, service, quality, and delivery performance
- Establish business plans with VW and TRATON to drive collaboration opportunities with sister brands
- Research industry trends, benchmark data, carrier market conditions, rate structures, fuel surcharge trends, and underlying transportation cost drivers
- Analyze category spend, lane data, accessorial charges, service performance, and carrier utilization to identify savings and network improvement opportunities
- Partner with logistics, finance, operations, and procurement teams to develop budgets, validate business requirements, and support transportation planning
- Build strong strategic partnerships with transportation suppliers to ensure cost competitiveness, on-time delivery, claims performance, capacity, and service levels meet or exceed expectations
- Lead supplier negotiations, contract development, rate implementation, and ongoing supplier performance reviews
- Drive compliance to International’s Sourcing Policy and VW processes
- Focus on continuous improvement of current processes, systems, data quality, and supplier management practices
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of purchasing/procurement experience
OR
- Master's degree and at least 1 year of purchasing/procurement experience
OR
- At least 5 years of purchasing/procurement experience

Desired Skills
- Procurement background with experience in transportation, logistics services, or carrier management preferred
- Experience with ground transportation categories such as Less-than-Truckload (LTL), Dedicated Delivery Service (DDS), Full Truckload (FTL), parcel, carrier management, or related logistics services preferred
- Strategic mindset with ability to develop practical solutions to complex transportation and supplier challenges
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships across different functional backgrounds and global business cultures
- Experience sourcing services, identifying competitive options, analyzing supplier proposals, and leading negotiations
- Understanding of transportation pricing concepts, including tariffs, rate structures, minimum charges, accessorials, fuel surcharge, and service requirements preferred
- Ability to read, understand, negotiate, and execute commercial agreements and contracts
- Ability to understand operational requirements and translate them into sourcing strategies and supplier expectations
- Skilled at developing executive level presentations and clearly communicating recommendations
- Strong analytical skills with ability to analyze transportation spend, rate files, lane-level data, freight rates, supplier performance, and market trends to support decisions
