Job Summary:

Action is seeking an HVAC Journeyman to join our residential construction team. This role is responsible for installing complete HVAC systems in new residential construction, including heating, cooling, ventilation, ductwork, refrigeration components, and related equipment while ensuring quality workmanship and code-compliant installations.

The HVAC Residential Construction Journeyman represents Action on jobsites every day. We are looking for someone who can work independently, read and understand plans and specifications, complete installations efficiently, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and take pride in doing the job right.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install complete HVAC systems in new residential construction, including air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, ductwork, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, thermostats, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical plans, specifications, equipment schedules, and jobsite instructions.
  • Lay out and install ductwork, fittings, boots, registers, grilles, dampers, and other HVAC components.
  • Set and properly secure furnaces, condensers, heat pumps, air handlers, and other HVAC equipment.
  • Perform equipment start-ups, testing, and system checks to verify proper operation.
  • Complete assigned projects efficiently while meeting production and quality expectations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to installations, materials, equipment, and completed work as required.
  • Assist with material planning and communicate shortages, jobsite issues, or project changes to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Provide direction, training, and hands-on guidance to HVAC apprentices and helpers.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and code compliance before requesting or preparing for inspections.
  • Protect customer, builder, and company property while performing work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Represent Action with professionalism, honesty, and respect every day.


Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is an experienced HVAC professional who takes pride in quality workmanship and knows what it takes to complete residential new construction projects the right way. They are dependable, organized, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently while also being a strong member of the construction team.


Required Qualifications:

  • Valid HVAC Journeyman’s License
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Current EPA Section 608 Certification
  • Demonstrated experience with residential HVAC systems
  • Working knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration systems, ductwork, refrigerant piping, and system start-up.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment installation requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate HVAC tools, equipment, ladders, and other construction equipment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of residential HVAC construction experience
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification
  • Familiarity with current mechanical, fuel gas, and residential building codes
  • Previous experience leading, training, or mentoring HVAC apprentices or helpers


Work Conditions & Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely climb and work from ladders and elevated work areas.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier equipment or materials with assistance or appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Regularly work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and wind.
  • Frequently work in attics, basements, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and other confined or restricted areas.
  • Regular use of hand tools, power tools, HVAC installation equipment, and other construction-related equipment.
  • Must be able to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
