POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Utility Project Manager and field operations through the procurement, tracking, coordination, and organization of materials required for underground utility construction projects.

The Utilities Project Engineer will work closely with the Utility Project Manager, Superintendents, Foremen, vendors, and suppliers to ensure materials are ordered on time, delivered to the correct location, properly tracked, organized onsite, and accounted for through installation. This position requires an individual who is dependable, organized, willing to learn, and able to work in a fast-paced construction environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists the Utility Project Manager in the management and coordination of assigned projects.
  • Assists with the procurement of pipe, fittings, structures, valves, aggregate, and other materials required for underground utility construction.
  • Maintains material procurement logs and keeps order status, quantities, lead times, and delivery dates current.
  • Coordinates material deliveries with vendors, suppliers, and field personnel.
  • Verifies material deliveries and assists with resolving shortages, damaged materials, backorders, and incorrect deliveries.
  • Maintains accurate records of installed material quantities.
  • Communicates regularly with Superintendents and Foremen to verify installed quantities and material usage.
  • Maintains organized records of material quotes, purchase orders, delivery of tickets, invoices, and other procurement documentation.
  • Assists with the organization of onsite material storage and staging areas.
  • Monitors onsite inventory and identifies potential material shortages before they impact field production.
  • Assists with project documentation, tracking, and other administrative responsibilities as required.
  • Performs other project-related duties as assigned by the Utility Project Manager.

  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision, such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Previous underground utility or heavy civil construction experience is preferred but not required. The successful candidate must be dependable, organized, willing to learn, and able to communicate effectively with project management, field personnel, vendors, and suppliers.

A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant construction, procurement, logistics, material management, or other work experience will also be considered.

In addition, the incumbent must have:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam and have the ability to learn and use other construction management programs.
  • Willingness and ability to learn company-specific project management, procurement, and billing software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, Superintendents, Foremen, and management.
  • Willingness to learn underground utility materials, terminology, and construction processes.
  • Ability to work both in an office environment and on active construction sites.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and long days as required by project schedules and field operations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned project sites as required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, high-visibility clothing, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

The individual must be comfortable working in both office and active construction site environments and be able to regularly visit and move throughout project sites and material staging areas.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstances of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
