We’d love to have you join our Bindery team as a Manufacturing Assistant Operator (Binder Assistant Operator).
What You’ll Do
As a Manufacturing Assistant Operator, you’ll support the binder operation by helping to set up equipment, monitoring product quality, and keeping production running smoothly. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with binder setup according to job specifications
- Setting up the cover deck and feeding covers
- Helping maintain glue application on the spine and ensuring glue pots remain filled
- Setting up trimmers and maintaining final trim size
- Performing quality checks throughout the binding process
- Inspecting books for quality during production
- Watching for and clearing jams, misfeeds, and bad trims
- Assisting with paperwork and production-related forms
- Supporting pocket feeders when additional help is needed
- Assisting with make-readies on auxiliary equipment
- Helping with routine binder maintenance
- Reading and understanding job tickets, work orders, and other production documentation
- Working closely with the Binder Operator to support daily production schedules
- Following customer quality requirements
- Helping meet production goals related to make-readies, speed, waste, and efficiency
- Using tools and measuring devices such as wrenches, gauges, and tape measures
- Following all safety procedures and protocols
- Assisting with other duties as assigned by management
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, safety-minded, and ready to work as part of a team in a production environment.
- High school diploma or GED
- Dependable, reliable, and responsible in fulfilling job duties
- Ability to troubleshoot machine issues when malfunctions occur
- Ability to work well with others
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing production needs
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions
- Ability to read a ruler and use hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction
- Ability to use measuring devices accurately
- Basic problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
Bonus Points If You Have
- Minimum of 2 years of bindery experience
- Experience operating machines and/or power tools
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on manufacturing role. Candidates should be comfortable with the physical demands of the position, including:
- Frequently lifting up to 50 pounds and constantly handling materials around 20 pounds
- Standing continuously throughout the shift
- Frequent walking and stooping
- Occasional sitting, crouching, and overhead reaching
- Performing repetitive hand, wrist, and finger motions
- Working near moving machinery in a loud production environment
- Maintaining strong visual attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Tolerating noise, environmental conditions, and production floor demands
- Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection and safety shoes
