Full Time Bus Driver and Custodial Position

Description

Primary Purpose: Provide support in the coordination and daily operations of the school’s maintenance and transportation systems, with a primary focus on assisting with transportation needs, including working closely with bus drivers and driving routes as needed. This role helps ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment and supports Gehlen Catholic's mission by promoting stewardship, safety, and operational efficiency in alignment with Catholic values.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

Grounds and Facilities Maintenance

• Assist in maintaining school grounds and athletic fields, including mowing, trimming, and general upkeep
• Support the care of trees, shrubs, and landscaping across campus
• Assist with lawn care applications, including spraying and fertilizing
• Help repair playground equipment and outdoor features as needed
• Maintain the cleanliness of outdoor areas, including weed removal and leaf management
• Assist in servicing and maintaining grounds equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.)
• Support seasonal upkeep, including blade changes and equipment adjustments
• Assist in ensuring proper drainage and irrigation of grassy areas
• Support general campus maintenance as directed
• Attend Buildings and Grounds Committee meetings as needed

Winter Maintenance

• Assist with snow removal operations across school and church properties
• Help prepare curbs and sidewalks for winter weather
• Apply ice melt to sidewalks and entrances
• Support relocation of snow to designated areas
• Assist in maintaining supplies and readiness for winter conditions

Transportation Oversight

• Work closely with bus drivers to support daily transportation operations
• Assist with coordinating bus routes and transportation needs
• Help assign and track the use of Suburbans and other vehicles
• Support fueling, cleaning, and basic maintenance of school vehicles
• Assist in maintaining transportation records and supplies (including DEF fluid)

Driving

• Drive school buses and Suburbans for:
• Morning and afternoon routes
• Activities, athletics, and academic trips
• Fine arts events and service retreats
• Provide safe, reliable transportation for students at all times
• CDL and school bus certification required
