We are seeking a dynamic, creative and highly analytical systems engineer to help us push the boundaries of warfare capabilities by providing critical mission and system analysis for both localized Navy kill chains and distributed DoD kill webs. You will apply a mix of traditional systems and digital engineering techniques and tools to help us transform concepts into resilient defensive capabilities and enable decision-makers to make informed choices for next generation C2 systems.

As a Systems Engineer and Mission Analyst, you will ...

  • Lead systems and digital engineering efforts to translate warfighter needs into mission architectures, warfare capability requirements and individual system requirements. 
  • Be a member of the Trusted Agent/Technical Direction Agent team to provide factual, unbiased analytical assessments,  recommendations, and solutions to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and use of traditional and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to design, refine, and apply disciplined digital engineering workflows to conduct concept and performance evaluations, architectural and behavioral assessments, and requirements and design evaluations.
  • Apply performance and/or enterprise architecture modeling and simulation (M&S) tools to conduct analysis and trade studies involving interacting sensor, data fusion, communications and weapon systems to achieve resilient and effective localized defensive kill chains and distributed kill webs.
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends, uncertainties, limitations, and risks associated with M&S assumptions and fidelity.
  • Deliver and communicate results that codify technical findings, recommendations and solutions to sponsors and stakeholders

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Have 5+ years of progressive systems engineering experience in the design, development, or evaluation of complex DoD systems (US Navy or the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) preferred). 
  • Have experience with systems engineering frameworks such as DoDAF, SysML, and UAF
  • Have fundamental knowledge of a DoD C2 system (US Navy or MDA preferred)
  • Have at least 2 years of progressive experience applying MBSE and digital engineering (DE) approaches to guide system design, development, and evaluation activities.  
  • Have demonstrated proficiency and experience with systems engineering, MBSE, and DE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, DOORS, Jira, and Confluence
  • Have demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills. 
  • Have shown ability to interact effectively with and lead multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government sponsors.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or a related technical field. 
  • Have 10+ years of progressive experience applying MBSE and DE systems engineering strategies to guide system design, development, and evaluation activities.
  • Have extensive knowledge of service, joint or coalition C2 systems and capabilities including working with operational users.
  • Have demonstrated experience with supporting complex systems or system of systems efforts in the early program lifecycle phases.
  • Have software development experience in Python and/or Java, particularly in support of MBSE with M&S or data processing tool integration.
  • Have led large or multi-team engineering efforts, providing architectural direction and driving adoption of MBSE and DE across organizations.
  • Hold an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
