Responsible for providing clerical support to patient care unit following departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
 
  1. Provides general clerical support to the unit, such as reception, data entry and retrieval; maintaining supply inventory; and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various types of information.
  2. Transcribes physician orders and notifies appropriate parties of orders and consultations.
  3. Schedules procedures and patient/resident transportation to procedure site.
  4. Participates in orientation of new staff.
  5. Responds to phone calls and requests for information in an accurate, efficient manner.
  6. Responds to patient/resident call lights and informs appropriate staff of requests.
  7. Maintains current, accurate orders, records and other documentation related to the work.
  8. Maintains the workstation in a clean, orderly, and well-stocked condition.
  9. Accurately performs basic mathematical calculations.
  10. Enhances individual and unit professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice.
  11. Maintains medical record in orderly fashion with documents placed under appropriate chart dividers.
  12. Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.


Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course, or high school or college coursework in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
Preferred:
  • Six months of clerical experience in a health care setting.
  • Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.
