CNC Operator / Team Lead – 2nd Shift

Position Summary

The CNC Operator / Team Lead is a hands-on production position responsible for operating CNC equipment while serving as the primary go-to resource for the second-shift CNC team.

This position will spend the majority of the shift performing normal CNC operator duties while providing guidance and support to other operators. The Team Lead is expected to help keep production moving, assist with machine and process issues, answer questions, and communicate concerns to management when additional support or direction is needed.

This is a working lead position and is not intended to function as a formal supervisor or manager. The Team Lead will work alongside other employees, providing experience, direction, and support during the second shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machinery in accordance with production requirements, blueprints, work orders, and work instructions.
  • Perform CNC machine setups, tooling changes, offset adjustments, and basic program adjustments as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manufacturing drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Inspect completed parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other appropriate measuring equipment to verify quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary go-to person for CNC operators and production employees working on second shift.
  • Provide hands-on assistance and guidance when other employees have questions or encounter production, machine, tooling, or quality issues.
  • Help keep second-shift production organized and moving according to established priorities.
  • Assist other operators with machine setups, changeovers, tooling, offsets, measurements, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot routine machine, tooling, programming, and production issues and contact Steve or management when additional direction or approval is needed.
  • Monitor production progress and communicate delays, equipment issues, quality concerns, or other significant problems to management.
  • Help ensure employees follow established safety procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Assist with training and supporting new and existing employees on equipment, processes, safety expectations, and quality requirements.
  • Communicate important production information, equipment concerns, quality issues, and incomplete work to management and the incoming shift.
  • Maintain accurate production records, shift notes, and other required documentation.
  • Promote organization, cleanliness, and proper housekeeping throughout the work area.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, productivity, and workflow.
  • Perform other production and lead duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous CNC machine operation experience required.
  • CNC setup experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to makeappropriate toolingand offset adjustments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to identify quality concerns and takeappropriate correctiveaction.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use sound judgment when management is not immediately available.
  • Ability to effectively assist and work alongside other production employees in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Previous lead, training, or informal leadership experience preferred.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to consistently work the assigned second-shift schedule.

Working Lead Expectations

  • The CNC Operator / Team Lead is expected to lead by example while remaining actively involved in CNC production.
  • The Team Lead will serve as the primary resource for employees working on second shift when they need assistance with equipment, production processes, quality questions, or routine operational issues.
  • The Team Lead may provide day-to-day guidance, assistance, and training but is not responsible for formal employee supervision or disciplinary action. The Team Lead should communicate attendance issues, employee performance concerns, safety concerns, employee conflicts, or other matters requiring management involvement to Steve or the appropriate member of management.
  • The Team Lead is expected to use good judgment, address routine issues when possible, and contact the General Manager when a situation requires a management decision, approval, or additional direction.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working around manufacturing equipment. The employee must be able to safely lift and move materials consistent with the requirements of the position and work in a manufacturing environment for the duration of the scheduled shift.

The employee must be able to comply with all applicable safety requirements and use the required personal protective equipment while performing assigned duties.

Schedule

Second Shift – Full-Time: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM

Specific working hours, meal periods, overtime, and scheduling may be adjusted based on production and operational needs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $22.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
