Position Summary: ECM Consultants is seeking a full-time Certified Construction Inspector to perform daily inspections for compliance with plans and specifications and document all observations. The purpose of this work is to support the continued health, safety, and welfare of the public while serving as the first line of quality assurance. Position Responsibilities: Inspection & Compliance Ensure that work being performed and inspected meets the minimum requirements of applicable codes and ordinances. Perform daily monitoring and documentation of the contractor's activities, use of equipment, quality assurance of installed materials and equipment, weather, and contractor personnel on site. Observe traffic-control requirements and remain current on applicable codes, trends, and developments through independent research and training. Adhere to all safety-plan procedures, including wearing safety glasses, a safety vest, hard hat, safety shoes, and a safety harness as required. Documentation & Reporting Collect, organize, and maintain documentation associated with assigned inspection activities, including adverse-weather reports, photo records, and time-and-material reports. Submit required daily reports and other written or oral presentations to the supervisor. Maintain as-built records, punch-list items, and current approved shop drawings. Field Operations & Communication Organize and plan the daily route to ensure efficient use of time and resources. Maintain effective and courteous communication with the public regarding inspection activities. Provide routine cleaning and schedule maintenance for assigned vehicles and equipment. Report to work at the appointed hour, work the entire assigned schedule, and be available for expected work hours of 8 to 10 hours daily, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. Key Capabilities: Ability to write reports and business correspondence, including accident and incident reports and notices of unsafe conditions. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, contractors, and the general public. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as digital-camera downloading software. Ability to read and comprehend civil engineering drawings and specifications and use this knowledge to verify compliance. Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems where limited standardization exists and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, schedule, and technical-data formats. Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and maps; write legibly; and maintain accurate records. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Collaborative, helpful, and team-oriented approach that supports larger organizational and team goals. Ability to operate computers, calculators, telephones, office equipment, cell phones, small hand tools, and vehicles required to perform the position. QualificationsExperience/Education/Licensing & Certification Requirements: Required High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 7 to 10 years of construction and/or inspection experience, or a combination of postsecondary education in a related field and inspection experience. Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle. Current OSHA safety training. LADOTD certifications in Asphalt Paving, Structural Concrete, PCC Paving, and Embankment & Base. Work Environment This position frequently involves outdoor field work and extensive driving between locations. Assignments may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, elevated or precarious work areas, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Noise levels are generally moderate but may occasionally be very loud in the field. Physical Requirements Field work may require the ability to: Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8 to 10 hours daily. Navigate uneven surfaces and active construction sites. Use hands and arms for reaching, handling, feeling, and operating equipment. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds. Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing. Utilize close, distance, color, and peripheral vision with the ability to adjust focus as needed.
