Job DetailsJob Location: LA MESA, CA 91942Salary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 HourlySUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The Thrift Store Worker assists with preparing donations for sale, providing exceptional customer service, and helping with the day-to-day operations of the Thrift Store. This includes answering questions and assisting with product selection and purchases. Helps ensure the store is clean, well-organized, and properly merchandised. It is also the Thrift Store Worker’s responsibility to follow all store policies, procedures, and assist with opening\ closing of store. All Thrift Store Workers report to the Shift Leader, Assistant Store Manager, or Store Manager, depending on who is on duty.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  RETAIL AREA Promote Store Purpose, Mission, and Vision Support and Promote Journey Community Church core values and DNA Arrive to work on time, ready to perform the job description Ability to interact with customers and store team in a courteous and professional manner, treating everyone with respect and a positive attitude Greet customers, offer monthly flyers, and describe sales Answer phones courteously and politely Assist customer with carry out as needed Ability to process customer transactions at the register Assist with opening store: placement of signs, rolling racks, and collection bins Cashiers count opening and process closing drawer Maintain a clean and orderly cashier area Monitor customers in store, customer service & loss prevention Ability to maintain clean and orderly fitting rooms and sales floor Direct intake and issue receipts of donations Assist with established opening and closing procedures At closing, ensure hanger bins and sleeves are emptied Display newly priced items on sales floor Complete merchandise display assignments Maintain a clean, attractive, and safe environment throughout the store BACK ROOM & SORTING Receive, issue receipts, and organize donations Sort donations for sales –or- outside distribution Clean, tag, and price merchandise for sale Research items for proper pricing Adhere to tagging and pricing norms and values Test Electronics Sort and storage of seasonal merchandise Ensure trash is emptied, cardboard and clothing to distribution bins Clean work area at the end of shift Assist with training new volunteers Ability to lift boxes/ bags and request help when needed Place newly priced items on racks or carts for transfer to the sales floor Place newly priced items on sales floor Maintain a clean, attractive, and safe environment throughout the store QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE  Education, Training & Experience  Retail experience preferred, but not required  Job Skills, Knowledge, Expectations and Abilities Reliable and trustworthy; sound decision making Must be prompt and reliable Effective communication and customer service skills Ability to work with a variety of people in a busy work environment Ability to maintain a flexible schedule with availability to work weekends and/ or evenings, as needed Ability to take directions and ask clarifying questions Ability to perform all duties outlined in the Hourly Employee Job Description Ability to use ten key calculator and cash register Ability to handle money with accuracy  WORK ENVIRONMENT This position takes place in our Twice Treasured Thrift Store (a retail environment) and the grounds around the Journey campus.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Should be careful not to lift items that are too heavy, instead, ask for assistance from other staff or volunteers Requires reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, walking, standing, and stretching on a regular basis Ability to stand for 4-5 consecutive hours  POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS This a part-time, non-exempt position scheduled to work 18 hours a week. Standard days and work hours may fluctuate depending on Journey services and events.
