FINISH MACHINIST (Manual Lathe)

Perform finish turning operations to final dimensions as specified on engineering drawings.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  1. Perform finish turning, drilling and tapping to final dimensions as specified on engineering drawings and standard procedures.
  2. Set up lathe as required to perform individual finish operations.
  3. Maintain all oil levels and lubricate machine daily; inform supervisor of any equipment defects.
  4. Set correct feeds and speeds as required for drilling, turning and tapping of different types of material.
  5. Refer to T.E.S. manual and shop procedure manual for specific details on press fit.
  6. Transfer any heat number alpha codes to fit slip adjacent to identifying serial number.
  7. Maintain and record time sheets for each operation performed.
  8. Move completed work to proper holding area for disposition following Quality at the Source expectations.
  9. Maintain neat and clean working area, including the removal and disposal of machined chips from machine base.
  10. Wear and maintain proper safety equipment including proper footwear and safety glasses.
  11. Assist in other areas of manufacturing as required.
  12. Work in a safe manner at all times following established policies and procedures.
  13. Work with co-workers as a team player. Communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers.

SKILLS

  1. High school education with one to three years specialized training in the machining trades.
  2. Requires the use of shop mathematics together with engineering drawings, specifications, and various types of precision measuring instruments.
  3. One to three years of specific lathe experience is desired.
  4. Requires the use of judgement to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of set-ups, operations and processes within the limitations of established or standard methods and procedures.
  5. Constant alertness and continuous mental and visual attention required to monitor machining process.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 lbs. of force frequently and 10 lbs. of force constantly to move product.
  2. Good, corrected vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  3. Strenuous position requires continuous bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, twisting, grasping, hand/finger dexterity, eye to hand and physical coordination.
  4. Significant upper body strength required to turn chuck wrenches and hand wheels.
