POSITION SUMMARY:
Â
This is an unpaid, temporary, part-time position. A minimum of 16 hours per week must be worked to maintain the internship. No prior GIS experience is required. Works under the direction of the GIS Director to assist in running and maintaining the Tribe’s GIS program. This internship is intended as an entry point into the GIS field for those with little or no prior GIS experience. Interns receive hands-on training in ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Field Maps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists GIS staff in:
- Scanning and organizing paper and digital records.
- Entering and updating attribute information in the Tribe’s GIS datasets and Excel records.
- Reviewing existing GIS data for errors, missing values and duplicate records.
- Preparing and printing maps to fill routine map and data requests.
- Collecting field data with GPS units and tablets alongside GIS staff.
- Logging and tracking completed map and data requests.
- Learns and applies GIS concepts, software and Tribal data standards through on-the-job training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of GIS concepts and how GIS is used.
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Pro 3.x, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of map production and basic cartography.
- Basic familiarity with scanning and plotting equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- An AA degree, Certificate in GIS, ESRI course completion, and / or prior GIS work experience is a plus but not required. The ideal candidate must have the desire and ability to learn and acquire new knowledge/skills on-the-job (both with assistance and independently) to accomplish assigned tasks/projects.

- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word and email).

- Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
Â
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Â
- Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-internship and random drug testing during the internship.Â
- Must successfully pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act
