Udder Health Systems is a laboratory that primarily serves the dairy industry by testing milk samples for bovine health as well as providing food testing for clients in the Magic Valley and beyond.  This position may have a variation in schedule depending on samples, tests, workload, etc.  Selected candidates will be trained in laboratory procedures and SOPs referenced for job duties.


Job Duties

The Lab Tech position is responsible for assisting Lab Analysts in a variety of operational tasks and includes driving fleet vehicle for sample pick-up from clients.  In addition, the Lab Tech will:

  • Receive sample submission forms
  • Ensure quality sample set-up
  • Perform testing on samples per SOPs
  • Accurately record results via data entry
  • Perform sanitizing of workspace, equipment, etc. as required by SOPs
  • Attain and maintain state certification with the Idaho Department of Agriculture
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly Quality tests, per SOPs, including verification of scales, temperatures, water, quality, etc.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Requires initiative and the ability to work without close supervision
  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to read technical material and follow detailed instructions and processes.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products is needed as well as the ability to learn other software systems used.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Lab experience, preferred


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • This position is in a laboratory setting, generally indoors, subject to air conditioning and heating, working with live culture and chemicals, some of which may be hazardous.
  • May stand 6-8 hours at the lab bench, conducting microbiological tests; tall stools are provided.
  • Position requires sufficient vision to read micro-organisms on plates, view computers, etc.
  • Position requires sufficient hearing to respond to alerts on machines; noise levels in labs are generally low.
  • Must have dexterity of the hands to sufficiently plate samples, type, and carry and hold items.
  • May occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, meetings, or sample pick-ups.
  • Position is generally 40 hours per week.  Schedule will include rotational weekend work.
