Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
Responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled mechanics, utility clerks, administrative clerks, overseeing and ensuring the quality, compliance, and timely completion of equipment repairs performed by vendors at port facilities, customer locations, container yards, and off-site repair facilities.Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the repair and maintenance of one or more of the following:Â yard tractors, service trucks, forklifts, top loaders, tank trailers, chassis, flatbeds, reefers, dry trailers, tires, gen-sets, power packs, dry containers or facilities maintenance.
- Administer preventive maintenance programs and develop work schedules in coordination with equipment need at the terminal or for facilities maintenance.
- Normally supervises from ten (10) to fifteen (15) skilled and semi-skilled employees.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials:
- Associate's degree in business/related field or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
Experience:
- 4 or more years’ experience in repair and maintenance of transportation equipment or facilities maintenance.
- 2 - 3 years supervisory experience in related area.Â
- Strong technical background in repair and maintenance.Â
- Strong union leadership experience with managing union personnel.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.Â
Other:
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) credential is required.
- Also, subject to a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check to obtain your driving history.
Working Conditions:
Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
