IT Principal Architect
The Information Systems Architect develops multiple types/categories of software architecture and operating systems for running end user applications. Working under minimal supervision, this job develops complex architectural guidelines, specifications and technical standards related to current and future end user requests. This job is considered a subject matter expert in the Information Systems Architecture field.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Executes complex architecture requirements analysis to convert end user needs into technical solutions.
- Synchronizes systems design and technology constraints in accordance with compliance requirements.
- Develops key capabilities and performance requirements when developing system architectures.
- Creates technical specifications and standards for layered and multidimensional models.
- Designs and implements solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems and applications across the enterprise.
- Communicates the design of the technical architecture clearly too all stakeholders.
- Implements complex data modeling and advanced project development of system architecture.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of experience defining target-state architectures and technology strategies for large, complex organizations.
- Experience leading architecture for one or more business domains such as Deposits, Lending, Payments, Treasury, Fraud, Risk & Compliance, or Customer Experience.
- Strong knowledge of modern architecture patterns including API-first, event-driven, microservices, cloud-native, and domain-driven design.
- Experience developing Architecture Decision Documents (ADDs), reference architectures, and technology standards.
- Ability to influence senior business and technology leaders and drive strategic technology decisions.
- Experience supporting regulatory, audit, risk, and compliance initiatives in highly regulated industries.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, integration patterns, security controls, and application modernization strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience leading technical strategy and architecture within the banking or financial services industry.
- Experience with digital transformation, core modernization, and customer-centric transformation initiatives.
- Knowledge of AI architecture, AI governance, data governance, and emerging technology trends.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and business capability modeling.
- Experience establishing architecture governance processes and architecture review boards.
- Proven track record of reducing technical debt and driving platform rationalization efforts.

- Partner with business leaders to align technology investments with strategic business outcomes.
- Establish and enforce enterprise standards, reusable patterns, and governance controls.
- Identify, track, and drive remediation of technical debt, audit findings, and architectural risks.
- Mentor solution architects and engineering teams on architecture principles and best practices.
- Maintain business capability maps, application roadmaps, and technology lifecycle plans.
- Drive cross-domain architectural alignment to ensure scalability, resilience, security, and operational efficiency.
